Boy's Golf: Perham third at Staples-Motley Invite

STAPLES — Three Cardinals finished in the top four as the Staples-Motley golf team defended their home turf at The Vintage Saturday.

Staples-Motley shot a combined team score of 321 to defeat Shattuck-St. Mary's by 18 strokes (339). Perham finished a stroke back in third place with a score of 340.

Andrew Israelson, Dakota Waverek, both of Staples-Motley, and David Schneider of Albany each carded a three-over 75 to tie for the lead. Israelson was the medalist on a tiebreaker.

Staples-Motley's Kyle Quast placed fourth four strokes back shooting a 79.

The Yellowjackets were led by Blake Kunza (81) and Nick Bahls (83). Kunza placed in a tie for fifth place overall with Shattuck-St. Mary's Julian Detmer. Bahls finished in seventh place.

Eric Huus had another quality round for Perham finishing ninth with an 85.

Daniel Stacey, of Nevis, hit a hole-in-one on the second hole, from 153 yards with a 7-iron.
