Late inning scoring helps Blues sweep Buzz in season opener

PERHAM — Mike Weismann went 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead Moorhead to a 4-1 victory over Perham in the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader on Tuesday.

The teams went to the seventh inning in the opener tied at one run each after scoring in the first inning.

Zach Schroeder gave the Blues a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI base hit by Austin Skjefte.

Josh Still led off the game for Perham with a single and tied the score on a one-out RBI single by CJ Mulcahy.

A pitcher’s duel ensued between Blues starter Preston Kraiter and Buzz starter Mason Malikowski.

Malikowski was lifted after the fourth inning for Mulcahy who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and retired the Blues in order in the sixth.

Kraiter retired the Buzz in order in innings four through six.

In the top of the seventh, the Blues rallied for three runs on four singles for the victory.

Drew Anderson batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Blues (2-0).

Tyler Oberg batted 2-for-4 earning the go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning for the Blues to clinch a 5-4 victory over Perham (0-2) in the second game.

Moorhead outhit Perham 10-7 in the nightcap and erased a 4-3 Perham lead in the final inning.

In other Legion action, Tanner McManus hit 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double as Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton defeated Barnesville 9-5 Tuesday.

Blake Kragness went 4-for-4 for DGF.

Ben and Nick Randklev each totaled two hits for Barnesville.
