Golf: Kunza, Bahls, Kalina headed to Section 8AA meet

PARK RAPIDS — The Perham boys golf team missed qualifying for the Section 8AA meet by four strokes finishing in fourth place at the 8AA South Subsection meet at Headwaters Golf Course.

Reigning state champions, Detroit Lakes defeated Fergus Falls by two strokes 306-308. Hawley was third with 328. The Nuggets were conference nemeses to the Yellowjackets all year and a four-stroke Nugget advantage ends team competition for Perham this season. Hawley scored 328 to Perham’s 332.

Tanner Schnathorst was the meet Medalist with a low round of 75.

Perham’s Blake Kunza, Nick Bahls and Nick Kalina all qualified for sections as individuals shooting 79, 81 and 83, respectively. They will be joined by Wadena-Deer Creek’s Jacob Goeden (77), Wesley Janson (87) and Adam Lund (89), along with the team members from DL, Fergus Falls and Hawley.

The Section 8AA meet will be held at Long Bow Golf Course in Walker, Monday, June 3 at 10 a.m.
