Swimming: Panthers defeat Perham 112-72

PARK RAPIDS — Park Rapids defeated Perham in girls swimming and diving Thursday 112-72.

Despite the final score, school records continue to drop weekly for Perham.

Finnja Becker continues to shine for the Yellowjackets lowering her school record in the backstroke to 1:05.01 in a first place performance. She added a top finish in the 200 I.M., as well. Panther Tea Nyland finished nearly four seconds behind in second place 2:29.84 to Becker’s 2:25.91.

Tina Galbrecht, Anna Dale, Natalie Murphy and Becker swam 4:14.84 to take the 400-freestyle relay. Becker was a part of four races recording three first place finishes. She finished second in the 200-medley relay swimming the opening 50-backstroke (30.50) Tara Wenaas swam second leg in the breaststroke (40.01); Anna Dale's third leg in the butterfly was timed at 32.71 and Murphy anchored freestyle in a time of 26.02 for a combined time of 2:09.27. Park Rapids' team of Paige Fritz, Kayla Anderson, Nyland and Rossman won the event in 2:00.27.

In diving, Hannah Brady broke a school record for six dives with a score of 196.20 placing second to Ellen Hoffman of Park Rapids (202.90). Sierra Lynne was third for Perham scoring 161.75.

Murphy swam 26.18 to win the 50 freestyle in a close victory over Panther Lauren Rossman (26.54). Murphy won the 100-free with a time of 57.31, defeating Rossman again (59.36). Murphy matched Becker with three first place finishes in four races.
