Volleyball: Perham sweeps Sebeka

SEBEKA — The Perham volleyball team made quick work of the Sebeka Trojans (14-7) Tuesday setting up the final two games of the regular season which could bring the Heart O’ Lakes Conference title back to Perham for the first time in five years.

Perham won the match 3-0 by set scores of 25-15, 25-7, 25-13.

“I was very pleased with our performance and really feel a sense of confidence in these girls and the way they are playing together,” Head Coach Eryn Moser said. “Everybody on the team seemed to understand their role and executed it.”

Sebeka played closest to the Yellowjackets in the opening game, but Perham managed to still win the first set by 10 points. Set two was a blowout.

“We finally played a great second game. Usually, in the past, we have played a bit sluggish in the second game, but last night we executed it nicely. We served 100 percent that game, and had zero block errors. We kept Sebeka to only getting through five of their six rotations, and we only allowed two points in a row to be served by them the entire game - which  happened in their rotation one.”

Perham cruised in the third set to complete the sweep and improved their overall record to an impressive 22-2. Both losses have come in best-of-three tournament matches. In full matches, Perham is 20-0.

Tina Scheidecker led the Jackets in kills with nine. Allie Christenson had 23 assists. Maria Rutten, Hope Slettebak and Ella Von Ruden combined for nine blocks, three each. Tina Schmitz and Scheidecker each had 16 digs. As a team, Perham served 98 percent, including two Scheidecker aces.

Thursday, Perham plays at D-G-F. The Rebels, who have owned the HOL since Perham last won a conference crown, will try to spoil a Jacket win. A Yellowjackt victory would propel Perham to a showdown with Hawley, in Perham, next Tuesday night for a winner-take-all HOL title match.
