Six Perham volleyball players received all-conference recognition in the Heart O’ Lakes conference this season, led by HOL Most Valuable Player Tina Scheidecker.

Tina Schmitz, Maria Rutten and Allie Christenson join Scheidecker on the all-conference list. Analea Erickson and Hope Slettebak were named all-conference honorable mention.

Scheidecker was top-10 this season in the HOL in kills, digs, aces and blocks.

“I was very stunned that I had gotten that award,” Scheidecker said. “It was kind of hard to believe, at first, because everything I've ever worked for finally seems like it's paying off, and I'm very thankful and honored to be awarded MVP. There were many great competitors and to be selected is truly an honor. I was very overjoyed!”

Tina Schmitz

Schmitz and Scheidecker led the conference in digs.

Both Christenson and Scheidecker passed 1,000 career milestones this season, Christenson in assists and Scheidecker in digs. Christenson was the conference leader in set assists.

Erickson, one of four seniors, along with Slettebak, a junior, were two of four Yellowjackets in the top eight in blocks in the HOL. Slettebak was second with 20 (six conference games), Erickson was seventh with 12 and sophomore Ella Von Ruden was fifth with 17. Scheidecker was eighth with 11.

Allie Christenson

Perham will return a talented sophomore group next season in their junior years led by Von Ruden, Rutten, Marina Reese and Amy Scheidecker, who all saw significant playing time this season. A few other players from that class will add to a deep lineup which will be led by three seniors: Slettebak, Honrud and Allie Doll.

Perham finished their season with a record of 26-3, up from a record of 9-19 in 2012. Perham’s season ended in a 3-1 loss to Fergus Falls in the Subsection finals. The Otters will play in the Class 2A state tournament Thursday afternoon against Belle Plaine.

Perham’s last 20-win season was in 2008-09 when the Yellowjackets posted a 22-7 mark after being defeated by Wadena-Deer Creek in the Subsection finals.

Perham won the HOL regular season title with a perfect record of 6-0.
