Swimmers cap season at state meet

MINNEAPOLIS — Four Perham swimmers completed their seasons at the Class A State Swimming and Diving meet Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.

The 200 medley relay team of Finnja Becker (30.65), Jackie Hanson (34.19), Anna Dale (30.36), and Natalie Murphy (25.35) placed 23rd with a time of 1:58.25, down from their section qualifying time of 2:00.55.

The relay team from Visitation, Mendota Heights, Caroline Gaertner, Heather Farley, Emily Kishish, and Lorelei Gaertner, set a new state record in winning the prelims with a time of 1:45.61. The foursome were the eventual state champions in the 200-medley. Visitation also won the Class A team championship.

Becker and Murphy also swam in individual races for Perham.

Finnja Becker was 21st in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.23.

Murphy broke her own school record in the 100 freestyle, placing 19th in 55.26.
