GBB: Barnesville snaps Perham girls' win streak

BARNESVILLE — Barnesville remained undefeated (4-0) after snapping the Perham Yellowjackets’ three-game win streak with a 64-42 victory in Heart O’ Lakes girls basketball action Thursday evening.

The Trojans and Pelican Rapids are tied atop the HOL with records of 2-0 in conference play. Perham and Breckenridge are tied for third place with 1-1 marks.

Perham stuck to Barnesville in the early stages before a Trojan run to halftime put the home team up 14 points at the break 31-17.

Holly Vancura and Peyton Boom led Barnesville in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The game was the home opener for Barnesville after starting the season with three straight wins on the road at Brandon/Evansville 68-39, at Hawley 50-46, and at Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 58-26.

The loss drops Perham to 3-2 on the season.

Pelican Rapids and Barnesville are leading the HOL in scoring with both teams averaging over 60 points per game.

Sophomore Mackenzie Korf is lighting up the scoreboard for Pelican Rapids.

According to a report by Forum’s Chris Murphy, Korf poured in a school record 41 points in the Vikings’ HOL opening win over Frazee (71-55).

Korf scored 18 in a 54-51 victory at home over East Grand Forks and followed that up with 26 in a 61-40 home win over D-G-F.

Korf is averaging 28.3 points per game.

The Perham girls are back in action tonight, Friday, Dec. 13, at Crookston. The Pirates are playing only their second game of the season (0-1). Crookston lost to Foley 47-42 in the Tip-Off Classic at Hopkins December 7.

Official game statistics were not immediately available for the Perham/Barnesville game. This story will be updated later.
