GBB: Yellowjackets cruise past Panthers

PERHAM — Sophomore Ella Von Ruden recorded a double-double and three Yellowjackets scored in double figures as Perham got an easy victory at home over Park Rapids 57-35 Thursday night in non-conference girls basketball action.

Von Ruden scored 16 points and hauled in 10 rebounds in a strong night in the paint. Senior Analea Erickson stretched the Panther defense scoring 16 points and finding her stroke from downtown sinking three of five attempts from long range.

Sophomore Maria Rutten added 11 points.

Perham trailed 18-17 as both teams traded baskets and the lead early before ending the first half on an 11-0 run to head to the break up 10 points 28-18.

Perham put the game away early in the second half and cruised down the stretch stretch the lead to 41-25 with 11 minutes to play and 52-33 with five minutes to go.

Von Ruden did most of her scoring in the second half on an 8-10 shooting night. Erickson was hot from the field early finishing the game 6-12. Rutten was 4-4 from two and 1-4 from behind the arc.

Katie Klein led Park Rapids as the Panthers only scorer in double digits with 16 points.

Perham improves to 6-8 overall and have won two of the past three games. The Yellowjackets host Melrose (7-5) Friday night at PWMS. Park Rapids falls to 5-8.
