McClellan Claims Summit League Indoor Track Athlete of the Year Award

ELMHURST, Ill. – North Dakota State junior distance runner Maddie McClellan has been named the Summit League Indoor Track Athlete of the Year as voted on by the league's head track & field coaches. The honor was announced Wednesday, March 26, by the league office.

McClellan is the second consecutive Bison to garner women's indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors after Deborah John won the award last season. She became the third female in league history to sweep the three distance races at the indoor championships, winning the mile, 3,000m and 5,000m.

The Perham, Minn., native clocked winning times of 4:49.87 in the mile, 9:42.35 in the 3,000m and 17:10.67 in the 5,000m at the league meet. McClellan was named the women's Track MVP of the indoor championships.

Over the course of the indoor season, McClellan set a new school record in the 5,000m (16:47.55), as well as moving to second in school history in the 3,000m and fourth in the mile.
