Gabriele Grunewald at Ponce Grand Prix May 17
Minneapolis/St. Paul – May 13, 2014 – Four Team USA Minnesota distance runners – Heather Kampf, Travis Burkstrand, Jon Peterson and Eric Finan – will compete on the track at the USATF Occidental High Performance Meet on May 15 in Los Angeles. In Puerto Rico, Gabriele Grunewald will be among the competitors at the Ponce Grand Prix on May 17, an event that is part of the IAAF World Challenge Series.
At the Oxy Meet, which will be held at Occidental College, Kampf and Burkstrand will compete in the 800 meters, while Peterson and Finan will run in the 5000 meters. Kampf, who is the 2014 USA 1 Mile Road Champion, has posted 2:00.04 in the 800 while Burkstrand has run 1:47.56 in the distance.
In the 5000m, Peterson has a best of 13:41.93 and Finan has run 13:44.91. All four athletes had planned to compete in the Medtronic TC 1 Mile in Minneapolis on May 8 which was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Grunewald, who was also signed up to run the TC 1 Mile, will now run the 3000 meters in Puerto Rico this weekend. She has a best of 8:42.64 in the 3000m and is the 2014 3000-meter USA Indoor Champion.
