DETROIT LAKES —Sophomore Becca Huus wrapped up an impressive regular season winning the Heart O’ Lakes Conference meet Tuesday at Wildflower Golf Course and being named the HOL MVP.

Freshman Liz Sonnenberg showed the one-two punch that put Perham atop the conference finishing third overall in the season standings to earn all-conference honors.

Huus won the MVP award with a scoring average of 41.3. Alexa Bekkerus of Pelican Rapids was second (43.0), followed by Sonnenberg (45.9).

At Tuesday’s meet, Perham and Pelican Rapids tied on the front side of the tournament and the Vikings won by a single stroke on the backside.

Pelican Rapids late surge earned the Vikings a share of the HOL title with Perham as each team accumulated 16 points during season play.

“The team side was as close as I have ever seen it,” said Head Coach Cory Solberg. “I don't ever remember that happening before. It was a total team effort on our part to win a share of the Conference title this year.  We've had horrible playing conditions all year and I am just so proud of how we've played all season long.”

Hawley finished two points back in third place.

Huus shot a meet best 42 on the front side and a 46 on the back nine, bested only by West Central Area’s Marissa Hayward (43).

Sonnenberg cracked the top six on the front side shooting a third place 45.

Perham continues postseason play at the Subsection meet back at Wildflower in Detroit Lakes Wednesday, May 28 at 10 a.m.
