DETROIT LAKES — Perham’s Becca Huus shot low rounds on both sides of the Heart O’ Lakes Conference golf meet at Wildflower Golf Course in soggy conditions to earn Medalist honors and Rachel Nelson captured her second consecutive Conference season title.

“I achieved my first big goal,” Nelson said. “Now I have State in my sites, and I am determined to finish strong.”

The victory completed the HOL sweep for the Yellowjackets, who won every conference meet this season.

Huus shot a 41 on the front nine and a 37 on the back side to capture the conference meet crown.

Destiny Mitchell had one of her best finishes of the year with a 41 on the front nine holes to tie Huus. Nelson went out with a 43 and came in with a matching back nine score of 43.

As a team, Perham won the meet by 23 strokes over Pelican Rapids 178-201. Hawley was third with 203.

Perham finished the regular season with a conference team score of nine, earning one point for winning each of the nine events. Pelican Rapids, led by Alexa Bekkerus finished runners-up with 20. Hawley was third with 26 points.

Nelson won most valuable player honors in the conference with a stroke average of 40.9. Huus was a close second with an average of 41.3 and Mitchell made it three Jackets in the top four with a  fourth place average of 46.1. Bekkerus, who joined Nelson and Huus as the only other Medalists this season finished third at 42.4.

The top 15 golfers in stroke average earn all-conference honors. Liz Sonnenberg was the fourth Yellowjacket to earn that distinction with a 10th place average of  50.9. Sonnenberg earned all-conference as an eighth-grader in an impressive scoring season.

Wildflower plays host to the 8AA Subsection meet Wednesday, May 29, followed by the Section 8AA championship meet at at Long Bow, in Walker, June 3.

HOL golfers battled gusting winds and consistent rainfall during the whole of Tuesday’s meet. The 10-day forecast for Subsections on May 29 are for temps in the mid-70’s and clouds, with a wind around 14 mph, which should allot for lower tallies. Wildflower is tough enough on a nice day; in the slop it provides plenty of difficulties.
