Marie Johnson/FOCUS Alvin Laguardia is temporarily living in Wadena and working in Perham as part of a temporary seasonal foreign workforce program. Being in the area has been an adjustment for him. Back home in the tropical islands of the Phillipines, he lives in a big city with his wife and son. It’s much more rural here, he says, yet there are more economic opportunities.

Valentyna Savchenko is working in Perham through the end of December as part of a temporary seasonal work program through Global Workforce. She is one of many workers from several different countries who are currently employed at Barrel O’ Fun. They are working in entry-level positions to save up money and experience life in the United States.
