David Jacob Miller, 17, of Staples died Thursday morning when the 2000 Horse Buggy Landau he was driving was rear-ended by a 2011 Mack 600 semi-truck driven by Douglas William Calkins, 60, Deerwood. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Miller's horse and buggy was westbound on Highway 210 near 211th Avenue in Todd County when the collision occurred at 7:19 a.m. Miller was ejected onto the roadway and transported by air to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities. The horse also suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of an accidental shooting Sunday morning in Deer Creek has revealed the .22 caliber rifle used had been hidden from view. At 7:34 a.m. the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s office received a report that a five-year-old boy had accidentally shot his three-year-old sister in the stomach. The girl was transported to Tri-County Health Care in Wadena and then airlifted to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.
DEER CREEK — A 3-year-old in Deer Creek was apparently shot by a 5-year-old Sunday morning, Nov. 19, the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said. The victim is in stable condition at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, the office said without releasing any names.
The Wadena County Sheriff's Office, the Menahga Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the gunshot deaths of two men in Menahga Monday morning. A 911 call brought law enforcement to Oak Avenue NE at 12:05 a.m. Monday. Officers found two men dead of apparent gunshot wounds according to a release from the Wadena County Sheriff's Office. The names of the two men have not been released. Law enforcement officials do not believe there is any risk to the public at this time.
Kenneth Arthur Dunker, 71, died Wednesday morning and his wife, Beverly, 74, was seriously injured when the Henning couple's 2001 Ford pickup collided with a 2014 Ford pickup driven by 22-year-old Marissa Dawn Roden of Henning.
The driver of a 2001 Ford pickup traveling north on State Highway 29 in Elmo Township of Otter Tail County was killed Wednesday morning and a passenger sustained life-threatening injuries when their vehicle collided with a southbound 2014 Ford pickup. The Minnesota State Patrol is withholding the name of the 71-year-old from Henning who was killed in the crash and his 74-year-old passenger who was airlifted to Sanford Medical in Fargo until Nov. 8.
Mike Olson has a way of spreading fear when the month of October comes around. Along with other members of the Wadena County Fair Board and a large group of volunteers, Olson has built yet another version of the Fear Factory on the fairgrounds in Wadena. Stretched out between two livestock buildings the Fear Factory is designed to put the creeps into as many paying customers as it can. The Fear Factory has been rated one of Minnesota’s top haunted venues.

The walleye-northern pike fishing season is always good for a huge exodus from cities and towns to Minnesota's greatest treasure - our thousands and thousands of lakes.
