Ernest C. Johnson, 67, of Frazee, died Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Frazee Care Center, Frazee. Arrangements are being handled by the West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. March 27, 1932-Nov. 26, 2007 Arland E. Baumgart, 75, of Perham, died suddenly and unexpectedly from cancer on Monday, November 26, 2007, at Tri County Hospital, Wadena. Arland Elder Baumgart was born the son of Otto and Hedwig (Bahls) Baumgart on March 27, 1932, in Perham. He was in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. On Sept. 19, 1955, Arland married Dorene Manning and together they had seven children. Dorene died in 1999. Arland was employed by Toledo Scales of Little Falls, Minn., Culligan and Dynamic Homes, both in Detroit Lakes, before venturing on his own as a farmer and carpenter.
July 24, 1921-Nov. 26, 2007 Jane Johnston Sheryak Davey, 86, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, November 26, 2007 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Jane Johnston was born to George and Marjorie (Flory) Johnston on July 24, 1921 in Anderson, Ind. Jane started her career as a vocalist in dance bands around the country. In 1945 she moved to Fargo. While working for WDAY, she hosted Red Owl Theatre and was a spokeswoman for many commercial products. In 1960 she moved to the Twin Cities and started working in radio broadcasting on KSTP.
Feb. 1, 1921-Nov. 25, 2007 Rose R. Iverson, 86, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Rose Ruth Bastman was born to Benjamin and Ida Hanson Bastman on Feb. 1, 1921 in Lake Park, Iowa. The family moved to Worthington, Minn., when Rose was 13, and she resided there until her marriage to Olof in 1971. They lived in Wolf Point, Mont., and then Fosston, Minn., before moving to Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, in 1998. Rose loved her family very much.
Dec. 9, 1918-Nov. 24, 2007 Former Detroit Lakes resident Ernest W. Muckala, 88, of New York Mills, passed away on November 24, 2007 at the Elders' Home in New York Mills. Ernest Wilbert Muckala was born to John and Minnie (Carey) Muckala on Dec. 9, 1918 in New York Mills. He grew up on the family farm in New York Mills, and graduated from New York Mills High School with the class of 1938. Ernest drove truck and also farmed in rural New York Mills. On May 19, 1940, Ernest married Elsie Hanninen. Ernest and Elsie made their home in New York Mills.
Nov. 5, 1928-Nov. 21, 2007 Cecelia "Pat" Swanson, 79, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Midwest Home Health in Fergus Falls. Cecelia, the daughter of Roy and Frances (Berger) Adams, was born Nov. 5, 1928 in Frazee. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and graduated from Frazee High School and St. Cloud School of Beauty Culture. On May 27, 1949, she married Mervin (Murray) Swanson in Frazee. The couple resided in Glasgow, Mont., where they owned and operated H & S Surplus Store, which later became Swanson's Furniture & Surplus.
Feb. 8, 1918-Nov. 23, 2007 Ted Kiehl, 89, rural Detroit Lakes, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes. Ted was born to Gottlieb and Theophile (Wilde) Kiehl on Feb. 8, 1918 in Detroit Lakes. He grew up on the family farm in Becker County, and attended school in rural Detroit Lakes. As a young adult he was a mechanic and hired out for farm work. Ted married Alice Lundeen on June 5, 1939 in Sisseton, S.D. Ted and Alice made their home in rural Detroit Lakes, where they bought a farmstead to farm.
Aug. 2, 1936-Nov. 25, 2007 Marjorie L. Ruch, 71, of Frazee, died Sunday, November 25, 2007, surrounded by her family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Marjorie Laverne Seffinga was born to Charles and Grace (Crye) Seffinga on Aug. 2, 1936 in Radisson, Wis. She was raised in Lemington, Wis., and attended grade school in Couderay, Wis., later attending high school in Winter, Wis. After completing school, Marjorie married Sherman Ruch and they resided for a short time in Illinois and later Iowa before moving to Anoka, Minn., in the late 1950s.

Brian Michael Sellers, 25, of 801 Fourth St., Apt. 302, Perham has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for stealing a car. On Feb. 7, a blue 1995 Chevy Suburban valued at $5,000 was reported stolen in Perham. The vehicle was seen at the Frazee Jack and Jill, with Sellers the driver and lone occupant.
