Oct. 19, 1918-Dec. 18, 2007 Joseph Kemper, 89, of Waubun, died on December 18, 2007, at the MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo. Joe was born to Bernard and Mary (Niehaus) Kemper on Oct. 19, 1918, in Rosedale Township. He attended the Fish Lake Country School and worked on the home farm in Waubun. At the age of 19, Joe was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country for three years. On Dec. 13, 1943, he married Larraine Haider at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun.
Feb. 9, 1926-Dec. 18, 2007 Robert Garfield Aakre, 81, died December 18, 2007 at his home in Rollag. He was surrounded by his children, and his loving wife of 59 years, Ardis. He had been under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Robert, the son of Carl A. and Mabel J. (Nelson) Aakre, was born on Feb. 9, 1926 on his parent's farm in Parke Township, Clay County. When he was five years old, Robert's mother died, leaving his father with nine children to raise.
Francis Fox, 56, of White Earth, died Friday, December 21, 2007 at MeritCare in Fargo. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 at the Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at the Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lisa Smith officiating. Burial will take place at the Samuel Memorial Cemetery in Naytahwaush.
May 20, 1920-Dec. 18, 2007 Ralph Jepson, 87, of Frazee, died on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes. Ralph Evan Jepson was born the son of Ray and Floretta (Seger) Jepson on May 20, 1920 in Coleraine, Minn. He began his education in Coleraine before moving with his family to Evergreen Township, where he attended country school, District 84. Ralph then worked in the logging industry in northern Minnesota, and also in the mining field on the Iron Range. Ralph married Patricia Newton on Jan.
Ralph Jepson, 87, of Frazee, died on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pickett Cemetery, rural Frazee. The full obituary will follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee.
July 22, 1969-Dec. 17, 2007 Donovan J. Kusick, 38, of Perham, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 17, 2007 in the Perham Memorial Hospital. Donovan James Kusick was born the son of James and Joyce (Ogram) Kusick on July 22, 1969 in Robbinsdale, Minn. When he was young, he moved with his family to Frazee, where he attended school. He then moved to Fairmont, Minn., and graduated from Fairmont High School.
Aug. 28, 1941-Dec. 11, 2007 Larry Vigesaa, 66, of Twin Valley, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at MeritCare Health Systems, Fargo. Larry Vigesaa was born Aug. 28, 1941, the son of Vincent and Jeanette (Badger) Vigesaa near Twin Valley. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Twin Valley. As a young man, Larry entered the United States Army.
July 13, 1910-Dec. 16, 2007 Detroit Lakes native Helen M. Shannon, 97, of Sturgis, Mich., died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Sturgis Hospital. Helen M. DeWitt was born the daughter of Irvin C. and Ethel Mae (Coats) DeWitt on July 13, 1910 in Detroit Lakes. Helen married Edward L. Shannon in Frazee, and they moved to Three Rivers, Mich., in 1952. Edward died on Sept. 12, 1992. Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family and card playing. She and her husband were former members of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Three Rivers.
Feb. 19, 1933-Nov. 29, 2007 Becker County native Joan Havercamp-Larson, 74, of Bullhead City, Ariz., died Thursday, November 29, 2007 after a long struggle with cancer. Johanna "Joan" Havercamp was born to Andrew and Marie Havercamp on Feb. 19, 1933 in Becker County. She graduated from Waubun High School in 1951. In 1954, Joan married Rodney Larson, and they raised their family together in Santee, Calif.
July 24 ,1921-Dec. 15, 2007 Former Osage resident Gladys A. Kangas, 86, of Frazee, died Sunday, December 15, 2007 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee. Gladys Adelia Galbrecht was born to William and Viola (Seichau) Galbrecht on July 24, 1921 in Evergreen Township, Becker County. She was baptized on Sept. 11, 1921 and confirmed on Aug. 4, 1935 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Toad Lake. On Sept. 20, 1944 Gladys married Charlie Kangas at Zion Lutheran Church in Toad Lake.
