The second annual Winter Light Festival will take place at the gallery of the Cultural Center in New York Mills beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2. From 4 to 6 p.m., visiting artist Charles Matson Lume will be present at his light installation, “Death is the mother of beauty (for Wallace Stevens),” which will fill the gallery through Feb.
A Detroit Lakes man was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 10 year supervised probation for burglarizing his parent’s house. Sean Patrick Menard, 28, was granted a stay of imposition, which means if he does not violate his probation, the felony conviction will not go on his record. Menard was convicted of felony second-degree burglary, but a felony charge of theft of a motor vehicle, as well as one misdemeanor of possessing pharmaceutical items

A Frazee woman was sentenced for felony transaction card fraud. Amber Anne Bauer, 20, will spend 30 days on house arrest and pay a $1,000 fine. She was also granted a stay of adjudication, which means if she remains law abiding during her probation, the felony will not go on her record. A Waubun man was life-flighted to Fargo Thursday afternoon after police say he crashed his truck into a house in Mahnomen. A Detroit Lakes man made his initial court appearance after threatening to kill a Detroit Lakes police officer. Burt Gregory Alan Stover, 38, is charged with felony terroristic threats. According to the complaint, the officer responded to a report of a man acting strangely and swearing in an area around Main Avenue in Detroit Lakes. When the officer arrived, he witnessed Stover stumbling, slurring and smelling of alcohol.
