A man involved in a standoff at a Detroit Lakes motel last month led police on a 100-mile high speed chase this afternoon and was finally apprehended in Thief River Falls. According to law enforcement officials, David Buethner, 37, a mental health patient held at a Fergus Falls facility, hijacked a state van while being transported to a different facility in Anoka County and headed eastbound on I-94. The Todd County Sheriff's Office released an attempt to locate Buethner, which got all regional law enforcement agencies involved in the pursuit.

A 25-year-old Deer River man has been charged with motor vehicle theft after he allegedly stole an ambulance from the Bemidji Ambulance Service. Jeremy Alan Jones was charged Tuesday in Beltrami County District Court with felony theft of a motor vehicle. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He also was charged with giving a peace officer a false name or a name of another person. The maximum penalty for that charge is 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office found an ambulance just before 7:30 a.m. Feb.

Arth was born to William and Elizabeth Arth on Sept. 24, 1930 in Breckenridge, Minn. He grew up near Lidgerwood, N.D., where he attended country school, and in 1948, he graduated from Lidgerwood High School. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
