Feb. 11, 1924-Dec. 10, 2007 John W. Niemi, 83, of rural Callaway, died at his home on Monday, December 10, 2007, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. John William Niemi was born to Jacob and Esther (Barlund) Niemi on Feb. 11, 1924 in Shell Lake Township, rural Osage. He attended the District 82 (Linman School) country school; then Detroit Lakes High School. John moved to Fargo and studied at the Hansen Auto-Diesel/Welding and Auto Body Repair trade school. He graduated from the Federal Aircraft School in Fargo and became employed by Hayes Manufacturing Corp.
Dec. 6, 2007-Dec. 6, 2007 George Robert Taylor III, infant son of George Taylor Jr. and Candace Roberts of Ponsford, was stillborn on December 6, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes. He is survived by his parents, George Taylor Jr. and Candace Roberts; grandparents, Sharon Rock, George Taylor and Gerald (Lorraine) Roberts; and great grandparents, Kenneth Arthur and Georgianna Adams.
April 28, 1932-Dec. 2, 2007 Clarence Beaulieu, 75, of Rice Lake, Minn., died on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at the Mahnomen Health Center in Mahnomen. Clarence M., the son of Robert and Jenny Mae (Smith) Beaulieu, was born April 28, 1932, on the White Earth Indian Reservation. As a young child he lived in Naytahwaush, until moving to Flandreau, S.D., to attend school. After graduating from Pipestone school he returned to Rice Lake. Clarence served his country in the Untied States Army. On April 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Rosella Stevens in Bagley, Minn.
March 20, 1907-Dec. 4, 2007 Becker County native Sister Martha Esser, 100, of Crookston, died December 4, 2007 at Villa Saint Vincent Nursing Home, Crookston, where she had resided since May 2003. Emma Ann Esser was born to Henry and Anna (Schmitz) Esser on March 20, 1907, at Two Inlets, the third child in a family of 10; five boys and five girls. When Emma was seven years old, she became very ill and was given the privilege of making her First Holy Communion. Emma attended school in Two Inlets. Even at an early age she thought about becoming a sister.
Monika Anna Tibbetts, 63 of Bemidji, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before the start of services at the church. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Mark Kindem officiating. Interment will be at the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard, Minn. Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji, has been entrusted with arrangements.
May 21, 1920-Dec. 6, 2007 Wesley H. Schlauderaff, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at St. Mary's Nursing Center of Detroit Lakes. Wesley Henry Schlauderaff was born to Henry and Lydia (Bohnsack) Schlauderaff on May 21, 1920 in Detroit Lakes, where he was raised and attended school at District 39. He married Anna Amundson from Ogema on Nov. 6, 1945 in Detroit Lakes. He lived his entire life in the same house, on the farm where he was born. He farmed with his Dad and brother Harvey until 1952.
Sept. 9, 1914-Dec. 4, 2007 LeRoy V. Bergen, 93, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at his home in Detroit Lakes. LeRoy Vincent Bergen was born to Joseph and Mary (Hudon) Bergen on Sept. 9, 1914 in Detroit Lakes. He attended Holy Rosary School and then joined his parents in their truck farm business. In 1935, he and his brother, Lawrence founded Bergen Wholesale Florists, a business that the family still operates today. LeRoy married Martha Tembrock on July 25, 1938 in Ogema.
Oct. 10, 1922-Dec. 5, 2007 Lloyd Larson, 85, of Lake Park, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park. Lloyd was born Herbert and Emma (Olson) Larson on Oct. 10, 1922 to in Lake Park. He grew up and attended school in rural Lake Park. After his schooling he went to work on the family farm. He married Ione Hagen on June 20, 1954 in Northwood, ND. Together they made their home on the farm, and continued to farm until he retired in 1977. Lloyd enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Feb. 9, 1922-Dec. 1, 2007 Former Detroit Lakes resident Mary R. Peterson, age 85, of Faribault, Minn., died of congestive heart failure on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Mary Rebecca Cowles was born to Dr. Edgar and Anna Cowles on Feb. 9, 1922 in Detroit Lakes. She graduated from Holmes High School in Detroit Lakes in 1940. She married Lawrence "Pete" Peterson in 1941. They moved to the Minnetonka area, where her husband owned a construction company. Mary worked in Wayzata at Hillcrest Nursing Home in the physical therapy department.
Feb. 20, 1923-Nov. 30, 2007 Della R. Stiyer, 84, of Ogema, died Friday, November 30, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Della Rachel Yoder was born to Jacob and Nettie (Forner) Yoder on Feb. 20, 1923 in Ladysmith, Wis. At age six, she moved with her family to Wheaton, Minn., and then to Sugar Bush Township, rural Ogema in 1946. She attended teacher training and taught in a rural Wheaton school for a year prior to marrying Louis "Lee" Stiyer. The wedding took place on Dec. 24, 1943 in Wheaton.
