May 15, 1918-April 3, 2008 Frankie Buttram, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Frankie was born to Silas and Delphi (Hartman) Dodd on May 15, 1918 in White Rock, S.D. As a young child, she moved with her family to Vergas, and then to Frazee, where she was raised and educated. She married Ed Fogel in 1937. They made their home in Frazee. Frankie moved to Portland, Ore., in 1947, with her sons Don, Richard, Kenneth and Robert. She married Joe Buttram on Oct. 2, 1949 and had two daughters with him, JoAnne and Linda.
Dec. 24, 1905-March 29, 2008 Clara Dentz, 102, of Mahnomen, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at MeritCare Pallative Care in Fargo. Adelia Clara Laubach was born to Joseph and Rose (Winter) Laubach on Dec. 24, 1905 in Springhill, Minn.; she was the second of 12 children being brought up on a traditional German farm. Clara started school at age seven, when the family was living in Brooten, Minn.
July 13, 1915-April 1, 2008 Eunice I. Muff, 92, of rural Ogema, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes. Eunice Irene Gilbery was born to William and Edith (Champion) Gilbery on July 13, 1915 in Kragnes, Minn. She was raised and educated in the Kragnes-Glyndon area. As a young woman, she worked on a farm as a cook for the farm workers. Eunice married Christian Muff on Dec. 4, 1935 in Glyndon. They farmed in Sugar Bush Township, rural Ogema for their entire married life.
Sept. 14, 1940-March 23, 2008 Former Lake Park resident Charles A. Dahlgren, 67, of Northfield, Minn., died peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. Born on a farm near Lake Park on Sept. 14, 19140, Charles went on to receive bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial engineering from North Dakota State University in Fargo. He enjoyed a successful business career including leadership positions at Cutler-Hammer, Sheldahl, North Star Concrete and his own business ventures.
Aug. 24, 1939-March 29, 2008 Former Detroit Lakes resident Margaret J. "Peggy" Aga, 68, of Eagan, Minn., died Saturday, March 29, 2008 after a courageous, brief battle with cancer. Margaret Jean Finn, also known as Peggy, was born to William and Shirley (Kraeckman) Finn on Aug. 24, 1939, in Chicago, Ill. Peggy moved to California in 1951, and graduated from Pasadena High School in 1957. She married Rhuben Oscar Aga on June 20, 1957, in Pasadena, Calif. They divorced in 1995, and remained very good friends.
July 7, 1921-March 31, 2008 Former rural Ulen resident Harland H. Erickson, 86, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes. Harland Hanson Erickson was born to Albert and Cora (Hanson) Erickson on July 7, 1921 in rural Rochert. He attended Grand Park Township rural school near Rochert. Harland married Anna Hamernik on June 4, 1944 at Walworth Baptist Church in rural Ulen. They farmed in Walworth Township until retiring and moving to Florida in the early 1970s. They returned to Rochert in 1987, and lived there until Anna's death in 1994.
Aug. 6, 1938-March 27, 2008 Elaine M. Mischke, 69, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Elaine Marie Hammje was born the daughter of Herman and Edna (Blom) Hammje on Aug. 6, 1938 in Newton Township, Otter Tail County. She grew up near Rush Lake, Minn., attending country school there and then attending school in New York Mills, graduating in 1957. She married Leslie Mischke on June 27, 1957 at Fort Ord in California, where Leslie was stationed with the military.
May 1, 1923-March 29, 2008 Mary Lou King, 84, of Waubun, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes. Mary Lou Oskinowe was born to William and Louise (King) Oskinowe on May 1, 1923 in White Earth. She attended boarding schools in Red Lake and in White Earth. Mary Lou married Fred King on Jan. 27, 1945 in White Earth, where they made their home. The couple worked with seasonal traditional camps throughout Minnesota, harvesting wild rice, pulping, logging and collecting maple syrup.
Dec. 16, 1912-March 29, 2008 Lelia G. Schmidt, 95, of Detroit Lakes, died on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes. Lelia Grace Cusey was born to Lloyd and Grace (Frank) Cusey on Dec. 16, 1912 in Detroit Lakes, where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1932. She then attended secretarial school in the Twin Cities area. Lelia returned to Detroit Lakes, where she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for the Gamble Skogmo Stores in Detroit Lakes, Wadena, Fergus Falls and the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Dec. 11, 1910-March 21, 2008 Anna Basswood, 97, of Ponsford, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Anna was born to Grover Oshgay and Nancy Stevens on Dec. 11, 1910 in Danbury, Wis. As an infant, she was adopted by Rev. James and Jane Rice. She came to the Ponsford area as a young woman, and harvested vegetables in the Fargo area. For many years, she would take part in the annual wild rice harvest, and she also worked in the maintenance department at the Pine Point Indian Health Service Clinic.
