Sept. 26, 1949-Feb. 8, 2008 Ruth A. Howard, 58, of Mahnomen, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Mayo Medical Center in Rochester, Minn. Ruth Ann Williams was born the daughter of James and Florence (Riffel) Williams on Sept. 26, 1949 in St. Louis, Mo. She grew up in the St Louis area and graduated from Webster Grove High School in 1967. Ruth married Dale Howard and through this union she had two daughters, Michelle and Angela. Ruth was later blessed with three more daughters, Julie, Elizabeth, and Rachael. While raising her girls, Ruth worked various jobs in St. Louis.
June 23, 1920-Feb. 8, 2008 Arndt O. Baker, 87, of Vergas, died on Friday, February 8, 2008 in the Perham Memorial Home. Arndt Owen Baker was born the son of Harry and Emma (Hoffmann) Baker on June 23, 1920 in Candor Township, where he was raised and attended District 98 School. He worked on the family farm and when his parents moved to Barnesville, Arndt took over the farm and continued farming. Arndt married Alvina Dahring on Aug. 1, 1943 in Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. They lived on the farm until 1953, when they moved to Vergas.
May 27, 1919-Feb. 8, 2008 Harold A. Sanders, 88, of Frazee, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee. Harold Alexander Sanders was born to George and Elida (Pederson) Sanders on May 27, 1919 in Slayton, Minn. He was raised and educated in rural Frazee, attending country schools throughout the rural area. After school he joined the Conservation Corps and moved to the state of Washington.
July 10, 1936-Feb. 9, 2008 Jeanette M. LaGue, 71, of Naytahwaush, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Jeanette was born to Sidney and Gerda (Nordberg) LaVoy on July 10, 1936 in White Earth. She married Theodore LaGue of Waubun in April 1955, and began a life as a military wife. She was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter who spent most of her life helping others. While raising her five sons, she also worked various jobs and volunteered in her church and community.
Feb. 20, 1915-Jan. 9, 2008 Becker County native Nellie H. Cary, 92, of Middletown, Ohio, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 in Ohio. Nellie was born to Nels and Hulda Westgard on February 20, 1915 in Becker County. She lived most of her life in the Ulen area, where she was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years. In 2001 Nellie moved to Middletown to be near her son, Raymond, and she joined Zion Lutheran Church there.
Jan. 2, 1916-Feb. 7, 2008 Former Frazee resident Patrick I. Murray, 92, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at St. Mary's Care Center, Detroit Lakes. Patrick was born to Patrick and Bertha (Jarvis) Murray on Jan. 2, 1916 in East Grand Forks, Minn., where he was raised and educated, graduating from Scared Heart High School. Patrick subsequently graduated from the University of North Dakota, and began working for the city of East Grand Forks in the Electric Utility Department. Patrick married Claire Rehor in November 1964 in East Grand Forks.
Sept. 3, 1937-Feb. 2, 2008 Ronald E. Lewis, 70, of Evergreen, Minn., died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at his home. Ronald Edward Lewis was born to Harry G. and Violet Lewis on Sept. 3, 1937 in Dilworth. He served in the United States Army from 1957-59. Ron later retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after more than 30 years of dedicated service. Ron was a man who had a deep and active passion for the great outdoors. He deeply loved the beauty of nature and wildlife and he lived every moment of his life with endless enthusiasm and energy doing something that reflected that passion.
July 2, 1924-Feb. 4, 2008 Nathan L. Perrine, 83, of Rochert, died on Monday, February 4, 2008 in his home, with his family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Nathan LeRoy Perrine was born the son of Ignatius and Minnie (Miller) Perrine on July 2, 1924 in Sherburn, Minn. He moved with his family to Rochert, where he was raised and attended country school. In March 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in November 1944, Nathan moved back to Rochert.
Sept. 3, 1916-Feb. 3, 2008 Virginia C. Mikkelson was born the daughter of Christian and Margaret (Ryan) Mikkelson on Sept. 3, 1916 in Aberdeen, S.D. That year she won her first beauty contest, selected as the 'Prettiest Baby in Aberdeen.' Virginia grew up in Aberdeen, Rockford, Ill., and Oakes, N.D. In Oakes she enjoyed participating in the high school drama club; performing in plays, musicals and declamation speaking. After graduating high school Virginia worked in district government offices in Bismarck, Wahpeton and Fargo before moving to Lisbon, N.D., in 1938.
Jan. 19, 1950-Jan. 29, 2008 Detroit Lakes native Loree G. Emerson, 58, of Minneapolis, died on January 29, 2008, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. Loree was born to Marinette (Fuhs) and Gordon Emerson on January 19, 1950 in Detroit Lakes. She was a 1968 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. Loree attended both the St. Cloud Beauty College and Rasmussen Business College. She worked as a beautician, a home health aide and most recently operated a home day care.
