March 10, 1929-Feb. 26, 2008 Former White Earth Lake resident Henry J. "Jim" Sherman, 78, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 in Coronado, Calif. Henry James Sherman was born March 10, 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Henry Alvord Sherman and Margaret (Schermerhorn) Sherman, the eldest of three children. Jim graduated from Central High School, Tulsa, in 1947 and then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), graduating in 1951 with a degree in geology. He then served in the U.S.
Feb. 10, 1914-Feb. 23, 2008 James R. "Jim" Evans, 94, of Vergas, died Saturday, February 23 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. James Ross Evans, known as Jim, was born to John R. and Clara "Callie" (Ross) Evans on Feb. 10, 1914 on the family farm in Johnson County, Neb. He attended elementary school in Rose Hill and high school in Tecumseh, Neb. Jim furthered his education by taking courses in diesel mechanics. Jim married Margaret "Peg" Ballard in Lincoln, Neb., on July 2, 1939. He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads until he joined the Navy SeaBees in 1941.
Aug. 26, 1961-Feb. 29, 2008 Bruce E. Madson, 46, of rural Audubon, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 29, 2008. Bruce was born to J. Donald and Alice (Larson) Madson on Aug. 26, 1961 in Detroit Lakes. He grew up and attended school in Lake Park, graduating in 1979 from Lake Park High School. He was self-employed as a truck driver for several years, and since 1997 had worked at the Rapat Corporation in Hawley as a certified welder. Sept. 15, 1924-Feb. 21, 2008 Percy J. Hunter, 83, died on Thursday, February 21, 2008 in Toppinish, Wash. Percy John Hunter was born on September 15, 1924 in Killisnoo, Alaska. A member of the Tlingit tribe in southeast Alaska, Percy was Teikweidi (Brown Bear House) and a traditional culture bearer. Percy was very proud of his service in the military as a technician fourth class, serving from May 3, 1943 to Feb. 8, 1946. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.
Aug. 15, 1925-Feb. 16, 2008 Mathilda "Tillie" Lenius, 82, of Frazee, died on Saturday, Febru-ary 16, 2008 in her home. Mathilda Elizabeth Reyelts was born the daughter of Claus and Annie (Wandrie) Reyelts on Aug. 15, 1925, in Frazee. She was raised here and attended school, graduating from Frazee High School in 1943. She lived on the family farm and married Harold Lenius on Oct. 24, 1949, in Frazee. They made their home in Hobart Township. Tillie enjoyed gardening, sew-ing, quilting and needlework. She liked to read and play cards with her family and friends.
Dec. 11, 1935-Feb. 16, 2008 Georgina "Jean" Accobee, 72, of Naytahwaush, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes. She was surrounded by her family and more love than most ever know. Georgina Sophia Wadena was born to George and Josephine (Guinn) Wadena on Dec. 11, 1935 in Naytahwaush. She grew up and attended school in Warroad, Minn. Jean later attended culinary classes at the Northwest Technical College in Detroit Lakes. Jean married Oliver Accobee in 1955.
Nov. 6, 1930-Feb. 16, 1928 Barbara A. Dutton, 77, of Remer, Minn., died Saturday, Feb-ruary 16, 2008 at the Cuyuna Range Medical Center. Barbara Ann Fehr was born to Albert and Ann (Johnson) Fehr on Nov. 6, 1930 in St. Paul. She moved with her parents and older brother, Jack, to Washburn Lake near Outing, Minn., after her fam-ily purchased the Washburn Point Lodge in 1934.
Feb. 27, 1928-Jan. 26, 2008 Alice (Drumm) Rislund, 79, of Glendale, Ariz., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Alice was born Feb. 27, 1928 in Wing, N.D. She is survived by her children LaVonne (Al) Laudel, Jan Pouncey, Ron (Sharon) Rislund, LeeAnne Rislund, Kathy (Joe) Arnote and Al-len (Janet) Rislund; and 14 grand-children.
Nov. 22, 1925-Feb. 15, 2008 Lothar O. Haerle 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Sunnyside Care Center of Lake Park. Lothar Haerle was born to Rev. Karl and Clara (Birr) Haerle on Nov. 22, 1925 in Stewart, Minn., as one of 14 children. Later in life, he moved to Detroit Lakes and worked at Field's gas station and later for his brother, as a bartender and custodian at Bunnell's Rec-reation. When his health permit-ted, Lothar enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Sept. 21, 1917-Feb. 15, 2008 Nancy R. Greminger, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 15, 2008 at her home, with her family at her side. Nancy Ruth Wickstrom was born to Ella Morris on Sept. 21, 1917 in Kensal, N.D. Six weeks later, she was adopted by Fred and Maud Wickstrom of Detroit Lakes. She was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1936. In 1941 she graduated from business college in Pasadena, Calif. Nancy married Lavern J. Greminger June 29, 1944 in Ren-ton, Wash. She was an accom-plished pianist and organist.
