July 2, 1924-Feb. 4, 2008 Nathan L. Perrine, 83, of Rochert, died on Monday, February 4, 2008 in his home, with his family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Nathan LeRoy Perrine was born the son of Ignatius and Minnie (Miller) Perrine on July 2, 1924 in Sherburn, Minn. He moved with his family to Rochert, where he was raised and attended country school. In March 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in November 1944, Nathan moved back to Rochert.
Sept. 3, 1916-Feb. 3, 2008 Virginia C. Mikkelson was born the daughter of Christian and Margaret (Ryan) Mikkelson on Sept. 3, 1916 in Aberdeen, S.D. That year she won her first beauty contest, selected as the 'Prettiest Baby in Aberdeen.' Virginia grew up in Aberdeen, Rockford, Ill., and Oakes, N.D. In Oakes she enjoyed participating in the high school drama club; performing in plays, musicals and declamation speaking. After graduating high school Virginia worked in district government offices in Bismarck, Wahpeton and Fargo before moving to Lisbon, N.D., in 1938.
Jan. 19, 1950-Jan. 29, 2008 Detroit Lakes native Loree G. Emerson, 58, of Minneapolis, died on January 29, 2008, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. Loree was born to Marinette (Fuhs) and Gordon Emerson on January 19, 1950 in Detroit Lakes. She was a 1968 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. Loree attended both the St. Cloud Beauty College and Rasmussen Business College. She worked as a beautician, a home health aide and most recently operated a home day care.
Feb. 1, 1922-Jan. 30, 2008 Dorothy M. Ogroske, 85, of Perham, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in the tender loving hands of the staff of the Perham Memorial Home, Perham, after experiencing a stroke on January 4, 2008. Dorothy Mary Tobkin was born the daughter of Henry and Anna (Schmelz) Tobkin on Feb. 1, 1922, in Perham. She went to school in Gorman Township, District 158, and graduated from Perham High School, Perham. She married Emil Ogroske on Sept. 29, 1947, at St.
Sept. 15, 1963-Jan. 29, 2008 Mari Jo French, 44, of Blackduck, Minn., died on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at her home near Blackduck. Mari Jo was born to Marvin Joseph and Evelyn Marie (Brown) French on Sept. 15, 1963 in Park Rapids. She grew up at Pine Point and attended elementary school in Osage, then went to Park Rapids Area schools, graduating in l982. She attended the Northwest Technical School in Bemidj, graduating from there in l999.
March 2, 1944-Jan. 27, 2008 Waubun area native LeRoy E. Altenhofen, 63, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at his home. LeRoy Edwin Altenhofen was born to Jake and Rose Altenhofen on March 2, 1944 in Sugarbush Township. He was one of 13 children. LeRoy graduated from Waubun High School in 1962, and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963, serving proudly for 26 years and achieving the rank of CMSGT. Upon retiring from the service in 1989, he went to work for Toshiba America Medical for 14 years. LeRoy met his wife Glenda Young in Shafter, Calif.
Dec. 20, 1959-Jan. 26, 2008 Former Detroit Lakes resident Wendy A. Wallin, 48, of River Falls, Wis., passed away from cancer on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Wendy was born to Dick and Judy Wallin on Dec. 20, 1959 in Minneapolis. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1978, and was employed at the Hudson Wal-Mart for 19 years. Wendy loved playing cards, fishing, camping, dancing and spending time with her family and friends.
Jan. 12, 1932-Jan. 26, 2008 Duane A. Muhle, 76, of Lake Park, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2008, in his home on Lake Ida, under the care of Hospice. Duane was born to Ole and Edith (Beckman) Muhle on Jan. 12, 1932, in Moorhead. He grew up in Longville and Glyndon, Minn., graduating from Glyndon High School in 1950. On Dec. 5, 1951, he married Laurine Hansen in Glyndon, where they made their home together. Duane enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952, and served in Germany during the Korean War. When he returned, he and his brother formed Muhle Brothers Construction.
June 25, 1919-Jan. 25, 2008 George C. Walter, 88, of Perham, died Friday, January 25, 2008, among family and friends in Prairie Knoll at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. He fought a very quick fight with lung cancer from asbestos. George Conrad Walter was born to Emil and Augusta Marie (Neunaber) Walter on June 25, 1919, at their home in Corliss Township, Perham -- one half mile north of where he lived at the time of his death. He lived his entire life in Corliss Township, attending the Toad River Grammar School through the highest grade they had, which was eighth.
Sept. 1, 1927-Jan. 27, 2008 Gordon O. "Jug" Eckre, 80, of Frazee, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 in the Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Fargo. Gordon Ole Eckre was born the son of Ole and Therese (Goodger) Eckre on Sept. 1, 1927 in Abercrombie, N.D., where he was raised and attended country school. At the age of 13, Gordon moved with his family, along with his dog, Peanuts, to Vergas. He entered the United States Army and served during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he married Delores Erickson on Oct. 30, 1948 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Loon Lake, near Vergas.
