Ready for some time in the limelight? Audition scheduling for the 2015 Perham Community Musical production of “Guys and Dolls” has begun. Auditions will be held in the Perham High School choir room (room 133) on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and Thursday, Sept. 10 from 4-9 p.m. both dates. Performance dates will be Friday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 22.
There will not be a general election this year; however, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, residents of the Perham-Dent School District will be asked to vote for the second time on a building bond levy. Discussion on the referendum was the primary focus at the school board’s regular August meeting on Aug. 12, and at a special meeting on Aug. 17.
Fundraising results for the East Otter Tail County Relay for Life have been tallied. For the second year in a row, organizers’ goals were blown away by community involvement and donations. “We reviewed and celebrated our successes!” said EOT Relay chairperson, Lisa Peterson, summing up the 2015 event, which was held on July 10.
Results of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) were released on July 30 by the state department of education. According to the department, statewide proficiency was shown to have “generally remained constant or increased slightly, while math scores remained largely constant or declined slightly.
For many hunters across the state of Minnesota, the deer season will likely feel very similar to the 2014 deer season. On July 28, the Minnesota DNR announced deer hunting regulations for the 2015 season.
Perham Area Chamber of Commerce volunteer, Evie King, and associate director, Emily Rutten recently visited the Perham Area Community Center (PACC). The PACC is located on Third Ave. SE, and is overseen by executive director Kevin Nelson, along with a board of directors. After three failed bond referendums in the 1980s, community members decided that something should be built for the good of the school and area residents.
Construction has begun on the additional parking lot at Heart of the Lakes Elementary School. The decision to add 56 spaces to the school’s parking capacity was made by the school board and district administration in March after parents shared their concerns for safety of children and pedestrians.
Perham Area Chamber of Commerce volunteer, Tim Birkeland, and the chamber’s associate director, Emily Rutten, recently visited Mary Roberts of Make Me Wine, LLC. Make Me Wine, which is on First Ave. S, in Downtown Perham, was opened in 2010.
Thousands of people visited the East Otter Tail County Fair last week, July 23-26, to try the tides, play games, visit with bendors and see the various project and animal entries. On July 26, fair officials made the decision to release all of the animals that were entered into the fair's competitions early due to high heat and humidity.
