Perham students took part in International Walk to School Day this morning. Buses dropped off students at the corner of Seventh Street SW and Coney Street. The students then walked to their respective schools in groups with adult or high school volunteers. International Walk to School Day began in 1997 and is now recognized in more than 40 countries.
This is the fourth in a series of stories introducing new teachers who have joined the Perham-Dent School District. Sarah Ogroske is a pre-kindergarten teacher at Kid’s Adventure Preschool in Perham. Ogroske is originally from Isanti, Minn., and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead in 2009. While at Concordia, she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
There’s no denying it anymore: summertime in Minnesota has ended and winter is coming. Many industries are affected by the changing of the seasons, including farming, building, construction and, of course, seasonal resorts. As cold weather creeps closer, the owners and operators of Lakes Country resorts are making their own preparations.
The craftwork of three area veterans is the subject of an art show now open at the In Their Own Words Veterans Museum in Perham. An opening reception was held last Thursday, with all three artists in attendance. The show will be open in the museum’s gallery through Friday, Nov.

This is the third in a series of stories introducing new teachers who have joined the Perham-Dent Public School District. Katelyn Wadewitz joined the Perham-Dent School District last Tuesday as Heart of the Lakes Elementary School’s newest kindergarten teacher. Wadewitz grew up in Chatfield, Minn., and had lived in southeast Minnesota for her entire life before moving to Perham.
Property owners in the Perham-Dent School District could see a nearly 32 percent increase on their property taxes in 2015. School board members certified the maximum preliminary levy amount at a meeting last week. The final levy will be set after a Truth in Taxation hearing at the December school board meeting.
Children at Heart of the Lakes Elementary School’s Back to School Bash last Friday got the chance to officially christen their new playground with a ribbon cutting ceremony. United Community Bank President Charlie Cavanagh presented HOTL Principal Jen Hendrickson with a donation check for $5,000.
