Ben Beyer couldn't be caught in the Minnesota Class 3A state football quarterfinal game Friday. The senior running back for Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton rushed for a 64-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Ethan Edeen then hit him up the middle for a 66-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter.
ALEXANDRIA —Alexandria’s Karly Betterman had just two points at the end of regulation on Tuesday night, but they proved to be the two most important points of the game. Without them, the Alexandria girls’ basketball team would have seen its season end in heartbreak. Instead, the Cardinals will advance to the Section 8AAA semifinals against Fergus Falls on Saturday after Betterman’s rebound and putback at the buzzer forced overtime in a game Alexandria eventually won 51-46 against Detroit Lakes. “I couldn’t even believe it,” Betterman said.
The Battle Lake boys basketball team has the focus of a group that knows there is the potential for a special ending to this season. The Battlers were one of just two undefeated teams left in the state after moving to 17-0 with a 67-25 win at Brandon-Evansville last Thursday night. It was their sixth straight win by at least 30 points, and they’re beating teams by an average of almost 35 a game. The Battlers never let themselves take a night off against teams they know they can beat soundly.
