DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A 54-year-old Fargo man was rescued from a deer stand just outside of Detroit Lakes Thursday morning, Jan. 11, after spending what had to have been a long, harrowing night there. According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Department, the man had been trying to hitchhike, but was unable to catch a ride when the blizzard rolled in Wednesday night, forcing him to find shelter in a nearby deer stand.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. – Law enforcement officials are trying to piece together the circumstances that led to an unidentified woman being dropped off at the Naytahwaush Clinic in northwest Minnesota with a gunshot wound on Tuesday. The woman has only identified herself with a nickname, and investigators believe she is from outside this area, Mahnomen County Sheriff Doug Krier said Wednesday, Jan. 10.

PERHAM, Minn.—A four-vehicle crash in Otter Tail County sent two people to the hospital Friday evening. At 5:26 p.m., a 2013 GMC Sierra driven by Barbara Joanne Olson, 67, of Frazee, Minnesota, was southbound on County Road 60 when she attempted to cross U.S. Highway 10 about 5 miles northwest of Perham, according to a news release from the Minnesota State Patrol. A 2012 Toyota RAV4 driven by Michael Todd Dean, 57, of Gackle, North Dakota, was westbound on Highway 10 when it hit Olson's vehicle, the release said.
WADENA COUNTY, Minn. — A Verndale, Minn., woman was airlifted to an area hospital Thursday, Jan. 4, after crashing into a semi. The Minnesota State Patrol reports that Mary Joy Byman, 34, was southbound on Highway 71 in Wadena County's Blueberry Township when she entered the northbound lanes of traffic. Byman then struck a semi driven by 60-year-old Michael Allan Erickson, of Osakis, Minn. The Patrol stated that Byman's Toyota Camry hit the semi below the driver side door.
TENSTRIKE, Minn.—Two people were injured Tuesday, Dec. 19, and a highway closed after a crash involving a propane delivery truck north of Bemidji.
ST. PAUL—The price tag for treating older Minnesotans for chronic diseases is projected to increase by billions over the next 10 years, according to a study released on Monday. Analyzing the state's data on health insurance claims, the Minnesota Department of Health study concludes treating Minnesotans older than 60 for chronic diseases will cost $16.1 billion by 2023, up 65 percent from the $9.8 billion paid in 2014.
Two men found dead with gunshot wounds in Menahga MENAHGA, Minn.—Two men have been found shot to death inside a residence in Menahga. The Menahga Police Department and Wadena County Sheriff's Office found the men after responding to a 911 call at 12:05 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13. The two men are identified as Michael Callahan, 67 of Menahga and Carl Albin, 82, also of Menahga. The bodies were transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.

PINE RIVER, Minn. -- A 40-year-old Nisswa man was apprehended Sunday, Oct. 22, after leading Minnesota authorities on a pursuit that began in Morrison County and ended in Cass County with speeds reaching 100 mph. The Minnesota State Patrol reported the 45-minute pursuit began at 12:30 a.m. Sunday when the suspect stopped for having a tail light out fled north on State Highway 115 near Camp Ripley in Morrison County. The suspect led authorities through Crow Wing and Cass counties, before the pursuit ended north of Pine River.
