Chloe Conn, a 14-year-old Detroit Lakes girl, died Wednesday afternoon while hiking on a trail on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. Chloe, who was with her family on vacation, had just finished the eighth grade at Detroit Lakes Middle School.
DILWORTH — A tow truck driver found a body inside a car parked by the Dilworth Walmart. Dilworth Police Chief Ty Sharpe said Ed's Towing sent a truck to remove a car believed to be abandoned in the employee parking area about 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 31.
WARROAD, Minn. - Three people had to be airlifted for treatment at a Grand Forks, N.D., hospital after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Roseau County Roads 5 and 12 late Monday morning, May 29, according to Roseau County Sheriff Steve Gust and the Minnesota State Patrol. Gust, contacted at home, said he did not know the extent of the injuries of those airlifted. He said that those airlifted were among eight American Legion members in a van.
LINO LAKES, Minn. — An inmate who escaped with eight others after a transport van carrying prisoners was taken over early Friday was caught late in the afternoon on a Minneapolis bridge. James Douglas Mitchell, 26, was the last of the nine to be captured according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. He was found on a bridge over Interstate 35 at about 4:25 p.m.
A jury in Becker County District Court has acquitted a Ponsford man accused of stabbing one man in the face and cutting another in the face and arm. Lukas Devlen Fineday, 20, of Ponsford was charged with felony first-degree assault - great bodily harm.
Three cars were involved in a rear-end collision on Highway 34 in Detroit Lakes around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, causing eastbound traffic to be detoured around the crash on County Road 141. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, a young woman driving a car westbound on Highway 34 was attempting to make a lefthand turn off the highway and onto Highland Drive, when a man driving a red pickup rear-ended her. The woman’s car then reportedly spun around, swiping a black truck travelling in the eastbound lane of the highway.
LITTLE FALLS, Minn. — A woman died Monday, May 15, in a crash with a vehicle traveling the wrong way on U.S. Highway 10 near Little Falls, the driver of which was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. The Minnesota State Patrol reported the crash that killed 86-year-old Dolores Ann Mickow of Wabasha occurred at 4 p.m. Monday in Belle Prairie Township. Mickow died at the scene of the crash.
Wadena, Minn. — Shoppers got quite the surprise at the Wadena Wal-Mart when they noticied a deer perusing the aisles. The picture above has been circulating all over social media, and the Wadena Police Department confirms a deer did wander through the superstore. Authorities say it happened around 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 16. A man was able to catch the deer and wrestle it to the ground by the dog food section. After some buzz in the store, the deer was brought back outside and set free.
Angie Marie Travis, 39, of Pelican Rapids, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.
A driver swerved off Highway 10 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Friday morning in Detroit Lakes, crossing a median and Frazee Street before crashing into a room at the Budget Inn. The Detroit Lakes Police Department responded to the scene and gathered from witness accounts that the driver potentially suffered from a medical condition before swerving off the road, not surviving the crash.
