A Hawley, Minn., man was sentenced June 12 to 20 days on electronic home monitoring at his own expense for his earlier guilty plea to a theft charge of taking thousands of dollars from the church where he used to be treasurer. As part of a plea agreement, Allan W. Fenske, 54, will also pay about $30,000 in restitution, of which he has already paid more than $13,000.
Cristian Alex Cahlin, 22, of Wadena has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fourth-degree assault and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. According to court records, on the evening of Dec. 13, during a sporting event, police were called to Audubon Elementary School, where they found Cahlin on the floor, kicking his legs, yelling incoherently and held down by multiple people.

OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. — A 35-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, May 31, for allegedly firing a gun into a home near Dent. About 1 p.m. Wednesday, officers received several reports of an erratic driver, with one report saying the driver fired a gun out the window of a 2002 Honda Accord, according to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
Chloe Conn, a 14-year-old Detroit Lakes girl, died Wednesday afternoon while hiking on a trail on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. Chloe, who was with her family on vacation, had just finished the eighth grade at Detroit Lakes Middle School.
DILWORTH — A tow truck driver found a body inside a car parked by the Dilworth Walmart. Dilworth Police Chief Ty Sharpe said Ed's Towing sent a truck to remove a car believed to be abandoned in the employee parking area about 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 31.
WARROAD, Minn. - Three people had to be airlifted for treatment at a Grand Forks, N.D., hospital after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Roseau County Roads 5 and 12 late Monday morning, May 29, according to Roseau County Sheriff Steve Gust and the Minnesota State Patrol. Gust, contacted at home, said he did not know the extent of the injuries of those airlifted. He said that those airlifted were among eight American Legion members in a van.
LINO LAKES, Minn. — An inmate who escaped with eight others after a transport van carrying prisoners was taken over early Friday was caught late in the afternoon on a Minneapolis bridge. James Douglas Mitchell, 26, was the last of the nine to be captured according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. He was found on a bridge over Interstate 35 at about 4:25 p.m.
A jury in Becker County District Court has acquitted a Ponsford man accused of stabbing one man in the face and cutting another in the face and arm. Lukas Devlen Fineday, 20, of Ponsford was charged with felony first-degree assault - great bodily harm.
Three cars were involved in a rear-end collision on Highway 34 in Detroit Lakes around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, causing eastbound traffic to be detoured around the crash on County Road 141. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, a young woman driving a car westbound on Highway 34 was attempting to make a lefthand turn off the highway and onto Highland Drive, when a man driving a red pickup rear-ended her. The woman’s car then reportedly spun around, swiping a black truck travelling in the eastbound lane of the highway.
