Due to unseasonably cool temperatures, poor field conditions, frozen turf, and supply of officials, the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors Executive Committee took action Wednesday to increase the opportunities for schools to schedule and complete baseball and softball regular-season contests in a condensed season. FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – Two people have been arrested and charged with Third Degree Murder in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy here, and his sibling has been taken into protective custody. Bobbie Christine Bishop, 40, and Walter Henry Wynhoff, 44, both of Fergus Falls, were being held Tuesday, April 10, in Otter Tail County Jail and both are charged with Third Degree Murder.
HOLLOWAY, Minn. – The Swift County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a crash with multiple injuries on Monday, March 12, about 4 p.m. between a Hancock Public School transport van and a semi at a rural intersection north of Holloway in far west-central Minnesota. Swift County Sheriff John Holtz said late Monday night that seven schoolchildren, ages 8 to 16, were injured along with the woman who was driving the van. He said all eight have been taken to hospitals.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - An Andover, Minn. woman is dead and 14 others were injured after a van full of Twins fans leaving a spring training game in Fort Myers, Fla., was hit from behind by a man whose blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, the Sun Sentinel of Broward County reported.
WINGER, MINN.—A body was found after a deadly fire in Winger, Minn., on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8:24 p.m. Crews responded to a fire at a shop at 18354 460th St. S.E. in rural Winger, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Officials found two separate fires when they arrived, one in a shop and one in the residence above the address. After the fire was put out a body was discovered in the residence.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—A 47-year-old northwest Minnesota man who has been convicted of drunken driving at least six times appeared in district court Monday, Feb. 12, facing two felony charges of criminal vehicular homicide in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian near Pine Point last Thursday. Bruce Allen Basswood, 47, of nearby Ponsford is accused of hitting and killing Joshua Charles Jones, 21, of Ponsford as he was walking on Pow Wow Highway, about a half mile east of Pine Point. Pine Point is about 25 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes in Becker County.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Longtime Detroit Lakes Police Sgt. Robert Strand, 40, has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, brawling or fighting—after an off-duty run-in with a man at a Detroit Lakes bar. The man, Blake Sundvor, 35, of rural Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District court with exactly the same thing.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Authorities have released two of three people taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a 21-year-old Ponsford, Minn., man dead Thursday night, Feb. 8. According to information released by Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander:

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A 54-year-old Fargo man was rescued from a deer stand just outside of Detroit Lakes Thursday morning, Jan. 11, after spending what had to have been a long, harrowing night there. According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Department, the man had been trying to hitchhike, but was unable to catch a ride when the blizzard rolled in Wednesday night, forcing him to find shelter in a nearby deer stand.
