A Perham man was injured Sunday, July 10, when his motorcycle hit a truck towing a boat on Highway 78. Wade L. Preston, 52, of Perham, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to the Perham hospital. According to the State Patrol, a 2007 Chevy Silverado pulling a boat on a trailer was traveling north on Highway 78 in Otter Tail County, attempting a left-hand turn onto Highway 108. The trailer with the boat were struck by Preston's 1997 Honda motorcycle that was traveling south on highway 78.

FARGO-- Forum Communications Co., or FCC, announced Friday it is entering into an agreement to purchase the publications and a carrier delivery company owned by Helmer Printing. The deal is scheduled to close Monday, June 27. Helmer Printing is a third-generation, family-owned company based in Beldenville, Wis. Mark and Scott Helmer, along with sister Jenny, will continue to operate their commercial printing business.
BRAINERD, Minn. -- It’s not everyday the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office gets a call about a citizen finding an alligator. Yes, an alligator. Not a big one, but a baby alligator. “We’re all quite shocked,” Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl said of finding a baby alligator. “It’s quite interesting, that’s for sure. You don’t get these calls every day. … In my 30 years in law enforcement this is my first time getting this type of call.”

Three young children were hospitalized after the all-terrain vehicle they were riding on near here collided with a car Monday morning, July 4, in Becker County. The ATV one of the children was driving pulled in front of the car on County Highway 32 about a mile south of the intersection with County Highway 27, which resulted in a collision, according to a release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office.
Volunteer diver Dave Oehlke, 67, doesn't suit up for calls as often as he did when he first joined North Dakota's Lakes Region Search and Rescue team as an original member in 1981, but he's been on hundreds of calls over the years. "Sometimes, things turn out A-OK," he said. "Sometimes, things just do not."
Otter Tail County Metal Sculpture Artist, Ken Nyberg, has another piece of work "on the road." The Byron Minnesota Schools near Rochester, Minn., commissioned Nyberg to make two bear cubs. It will match the mother bear at the high school that Nyberg made years ago. The mascot for Byron is a bear. The two bear cubs "on a log" were loaded on a semi in Vining and hauled to Byron last week. The two bears are made of lawn mower blades. Nyberg's sculptures are featured all around the town in Vining, and in towns around Otter Tail County.
ST. PAUL -- Gov. Mark Dayton left the country Tuesday, and House Speaker Kurt Daudt has not called a meeting among the governor and legislative leaders to discuss a special legislative session. "I have not heard anything from the speaker about another meeting..." Dayton said before heading on an official visit to Croatia. "I had asked him to convene the next meeting and host it."
