Troubling details have emerged regarding the mental health of Dustin Defiel, the suspect in the shooting death of his father, Rick Defiel. Four years ago, a local suicide prevention organization foreshadowed a shooting while pleading Defiel's heartbreaking story to leaders in Washington, D.C., asking for them to step up in helping treat veterans with PTSD. Defiel was charged with second-degree murder in Otter Tail County Court last Friday. Bail was set at $1 million.
FRAZEE, Minn. -- One person was stabbed in a huge fight involving men and women in an alley in Frazee in northwest Minnesota about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. FARGO - Emergency sirens sounded off just before 3 p.m. on May 27 in Fargo-Moorhead after funnel clouds were spotted east of Moorhead causing a scare to residents mostly at work. Pete Speicher, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Grand Forks, estimated that three to four funnel clouds were spotted. “There’s enough low-level rotation that once some weak storms began to develop they created some very weak, mostly high-based funnels,” he said.
Naked man hospitalized after tussle with homeowner OTTERTAIL, Minn.—A man described by the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office as unwanted and unclothed engaged in a physical altercation with a homeowner after the homeowner found the man in the basement of a residence here Monday morning, May 23. The Sheriff's Office was notified of the incident about 7 a.m. when a resident of the home called to say a naked intruder had fought with a resident of the home and was being detained.
CROOKSTON, Minn. -- A Wadena, Minn. man pleaded guilty Friday to assault and fleeing officers after a police chase that ended with him crashing head-on into a deputy's patrol car. Jeremiah Christopher Raper, 37, originally faced two counts of first-degree attempted murder for the August incident. But he entered into a plea agreement Friday in which he pleaded guilty to first-degree assault on a peace officer, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and fleeing from a peace officer in a motor vehicle, all felonies.
ST. PAUL -- Officers from law enforcement agencies across Minnesota handed out 972 citations for texting while driving during an extra-enforcement campaign earlier this month. Police officers and sheriff's deputies from more than 300 agencies, along with Minnesota State Patrol troopers, took part in the campaign from April 11-17. The number of citations during this year's seven-day effort compares to 909 in a six-day campaign last year.

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office said Sunday morning that two boys missing since Saturday afternoon have been found. A text alert from the sheriff's office said "The two missing children have been found alive and are doing OK." According to the sheriff's office, searchers found the boys, ages 7 and 8, who are now being treated by emergency medical personnel.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Police in Detroit Lakes have released the name of the 32-year-old man whose February death due to a heroin overdose spurred an investigation into the two men who might have been the last to see him alive. Christopher Michael Richot was new to Detroit Lakes, but had family in Grand Forks, N.D., and had spent time in Fargo, officials said. He was found Feb. 10, and the autopsy report showed he died of a heroin overdose.
