PAYNESVILLE, Minn. -- Two people were killed Saturday in Kandiyohi County when a Canadian Pacific train collided with a vehicle west of Paynesville. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Charles Wayne Vadner, 52, of Paynesville and the passenger Nathan Joe Bahner, 23, of Paynesville.
FOSSTON, Minn. -- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking information on the illegal killing of a moose shot during the Minnesota deer season on a federal waterfowl production area near Fosston. In a news release, the service said the moose was shot and left to lie “a few miles” south of Fosston. Chuck Melvin, a federal wildlife officer for the service in Detroit Lakes, said the agency is investigating the shooting instead of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources because the moose was killed on federal lands.
WEST FARGO – A 22-year-old West Fargo man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly assaulting his wife and biting off a portion of a taxi driver’s nose, according to a release from the West Fargo Police Department. Officers responded to a disturbance call at approximately 3 a.m.
BEMIDJI, Minn. – A 16-year-old student in possession of a BB gun was taken into custody at Voyageurs Expeditionary School here Tuesday afternoon. Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin said a student saw the gun and reported it to school administration, who then called the police. The teenager was arrested at the school at approximately 2:30 p.m.

A Frazee man was sentenced to nearly two years in prison for assaulting and choking his girlfriend at a Fourth of July party this past summer. Brian Todd Thunstedt, 34, was arrested at Acorn Lake Trailer Park on Highway 10, where officers found him lying in a ditch, intoxicated and barely able to walk. According to the complaint, witnesses at the residence told police they saw Thunstedt assault his girlfriend, who left the scene.
WADENA, Minn. -- A 14-year-old Bluffton, Minn., boy who was accidentally shot in the head while playing a game with a .38 caliber revolver at his home five miles north of Bluffton has died from his injuries. Levi Roggenkamp was transported first to Tri-County Health Care in Wadena then flown by helicopter to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities suburb of Robbinsdale on Thursday morning.

ADA, Minn. – The Norman County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the missing hunter found dead after a brief search Saturday night. Norman County Sheriff Jeremy Thornton said Blake Larson, 25, of Nielsville, Minn., was found at about 8:54 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area northwest of Shelly Township.
