BEMIDJI -- A teacher at a Bemidji charter school has been arrested and faces sex crime charges. Paul Johnson, 48, was arrested on Wednesday and faces charges of third degree criminal sexual conduct, according to records at the Beltrami County Jail. Johnson is a math teacher at Voyageurs Expeditionary School in Bemidji and has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, according to the school. PEMBINA, N.D. – U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers arrested a 35-year-old Minnesota man Friday for allegedly trying to enter the country with 12 grams of methamphetamine. According to a statement from the CBP, Seth Isacc Ray King of Detroit Lakes, Minn., was entering the U.S. at the Pembina port of entry. During a vehicle inspection, officers found 23 small bags and one larger bag containing drugs, along with drug paraphernalia, the agency said.
A Menahga family is homeless after a New Year’s Eve fire burned their house to the ground. Diann and Ken Phillips watched Wednesday morning as flames continued to lick at the remains of the frame home on Wadena County 31, two miles east of Menahga. Fire departments from Menahga, Park Rapids and Sebeka battled sub-zero temperatures in the futile effort. The home they’d live in for 25 years was gone in two hours. “We’re waiting for the Salvation Army,” said Diann Phillips, shivering in the cold.
CASSELTON, N.D. – Cass County officials urged the people of Casselton and the surrounding area to evacuate their homes as they dealt with the fallout from a massive fire caused by a train derailment and collision here Monday afternoon. The fire started about 2:10 p.m. when a westbound grain train derailed about a half-mile west of Casselton and slammed into an eastbound 106-car train carrying crude oil.
