It's Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota, and there will be a statewide tornado drill today (April 20, 2017). The National Weather Service will issue a simulated tornado warning for Minnesota counties - at 1:45 p.m. today. Most cities and counties will activate outdoor warning sirens at that time.
A 16-year-old boy was killed as he was driving to school April 13, after a semi crossed over the centerline on an Otter Tail County highway and struck his car in a head-on crash. The crash happened in foggy conditions about 6 a.m. on Highway 210 near Vining when a semi pulling heading west struck the car that traveling east, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.
BATTLE LAKE—Battle Lake police are looking into a possible child abduction after they responded to witness reports Friday night, April 7. Witnesses told police they saw a male driver exit a black SUV and grab an older male student who was around 14 or 15 years old with black hair and wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with blue jeans. The boy and his skateboard were put into the SUV, and witnesses said the victim was pounding on the window and yelling for help. There may have been a woman in the passenger seat of the vehicle, witnesses told police.
At 4:26 p.m. yesterday the Detroit Lakes Police Department was notified of a train-pedestrian accident along Highway 10 between Corbett and Jackson Avenues, where a 13-year-old boy was injured while crossing the railroad tracks. A BNSF train was westbound, approaching the same area as the boy. The train crew observed the boy on the tracks and sounded the bells and horns, but the boy did not hear the train approaching.
A dog had to be rescued from a frigid lake near Perham after she fell through the ice. The Perham Fire department says this dog had to be pulled from Boedighemier Lake.
A toddler reported missing early Tuesday has been found safe after his father and another man allegedly abducted him and stabbed the boy's mother. In a message on its Twitter page, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said 2-year-old Harlen Hulbert is safe after he was abducted at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, from a home in south Minneapolis.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- A 21-year-old St. Cloud State student last seen leaving a St. Cloud nightclub early Saturday morning, March 25, remains missing. Video footage shows Jesse Aaron Dady walking alone in the city after leaving the Red Carpet nightclub around 1:30 a.m. Friends last saw him during a scuffle at The Press Bar & Parlor, according to a Facebook post by Locate The Missing and shared by Stearns County. Dady is 6-foot, 150 pounds with blonde hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a bright orange hat, gray jacket and blue jeans, the post said.
PERHAM, Minn.—Perham defensive tackle Logan Richter has verbally committed to play football at the University of Minnesota, the junior announced via Twitter on Saturday, March 25. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Richter was also a key basketball player for the Yellowjackets, who advanced to the Minnesota Class 2A, Section 8 boys championship game. Richter is part of the 2018 recruiting class. The Perham Focus will have more in its next edition.
Senior guard Elijah Colbeck scored a game-high 22 points to lead Fergus Falls to a 65-51 victory against Big Lake on Thursday, March 23, in the consolation semifinals at the Minnesota Class 3A boys basketball tournament at Concordia-St, Paul. Junior forward Harrison Christensen added 18 points for the Otters, who improved to 26-5 overall. Fergus Falls will play for fifth place at 4 p.m. Friday at Concordia-St. Paul.
