The Perham VFW Post 4020 Stingers baseball team traveled to Bemidji this past weekend for the District 9 tournament and returned with a state berth. The Stingers entered the tournament as the #2 seed and knew that as long as they maintained that seeding, they would advance to the state tournament. As the #2 seed, the Stingers had a bye the first round and faced Thief River Falls in round two. The Perham team had no problem getting advancing winning 9-0.
The Perham baseball team continued their winning ways with a doubleheader sweep of Wadena-Deer Creek Friday at Wadena. The Yellowjackets won 8-5 in game one and blew out the Wolverines, 20-0, in the nightcap. On the day, junior Jesse Hein was 3 for 4. He walked four times and scored eight runs. Gabe Pankonin and Mac Link each had home runs for Perham in the victories and senior David Alstadt contributed by going 4 for 6 with five runs scored on the day.
