An anonymous donation of nearly seven thousand dollars was given to the Perham-Dent Public School district to pay off overdue lunch tabs for students on the free and reduced lunch program. "This is the first time we've received this type of donation," Superintendent Mitch Anderson said. "In talking to the donor, it was triggered by the attention overdue lunch accounts has received not only in Minnesota, but throughout the country." He added that letters have been written to inform families and will be sent out this week.
The VFW Auxiliary Fall Americanism Contest had 125 students participate this year. Kindergarten and first graders who chose to participate colored a picture of the American Eagle and second and first graders who chose to participate colored a picture of Betsy Ross. Fourth and fifth graders wrote an essay on the story of the Statue of Liberty. Americanism is a state contest to promote patriotism in elementary age children. First, second, and third place winners/prizes were awarded at each grade level and sent on for further competition at the district level.

Perham, MN — Steven Murrell, M.D., recently joined the Perham Health team. His addition will enhance expertise and further improve access. Murrell received his medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas in Nevis, West Indies. He specializes in family medicine at the Perham Health Clinic. He is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
The Minnesota Association of Townships (MAT) is proud to announce its 18th annual scholarship program for high school Juniors in the state of Minnesota. Up to six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. All applications for the awards must be submitted by May 1st, 2018.

Arnie and Carol Rethemeier were recently honored at the 2017 NDSU Harvest Bowl as the Outstanding Agriculturist from Otter Tail County. Arnie received both his bachelor and masters degrees from NDSU and spent thirty-five years teaching vocational agriculture with the Perham Public Schools. Arnie's teaching program the FFA organization were recognized on the state and national levels for excellence.
Students Making a Difference is having a donation drive December 11th-22nd. Donation bins will be at Perham Health, Perham Living, Heart of the Lakes Elementary School, Prairie Wind Middle School, Perham High School, Saint Paul's Lutheran Church and Saint Henry's Catholic Church. Items to donate would be shampoo, body wash, lotion, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, socks, band aids and other hygiene items. All donations are appreciated. Students Making a Difference puts together hygiene kits and distributes them to local children in need of these items.
They're dropping like flies — men in positions of authority who once perhaps thought themselves untouchable, as they then touched and harassed people "below" their perceived caste. As their arrogance grew, so too did their bold, careless, hurtful behavior. It was that arrogance — that presumptuous feeling that they were grander than they were — which brought them tumbling. It's a good thing this is happening; it is so very long overdue.
