Maxine Julian Ennenga, 77, of rural Ogema, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at her home. She was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Ponsford to George and Josephine (Lightning) Norcross. She was raised and educated in Ponsford. She married Frank Bigbear Sr. in 1946 in Ponsford. She worked for Helgrens Vegetable Farm near Dilworth and later for Ringer Co. in Park Rapids. She moved to Minneapolis, where she worked as a housekeeper at a number of hotels, as a seamstress for a drapery manufacturing company and for St. Joseph's Free Store. She and Frank divorced. She married Vern Ennenga in Minneapolis in 1979.
Bertha Mabel Regnier, 91, of Menahga, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at her home. She was born Nov. 3, 1917 in Groton, Mass. to George and Betsey Carkin. She grew up and attended school in Groton, where she graduated from high school. She married Joseph Regnier July 12, 1937 in Groton. He was a career military man and they moved a great deal during his military career. In 1958 they moved south of Akeley. For many years they raised honey bees on their property. She worked as a night nurse at Ah-Gwah-Ching State Nursing Home at Walker.
Alice Sabra Stevens, 97, of Park Rapids, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Care-Age Country Home in Park Rapids. She was born Nov. 20, 1911 to Dano and Kate (Griffith) Dickinson in Verona, N.D. She moved with her family to a farm in western Hubbard County in 1927. She married Roy Stevens on March 15, 1934. She and her husband farmed west of Park Rapids until 1941, when they bought a farm on the Hubbard Prairie and lived there until 1970. Upon retirement they built a home near Hubbard where she lived until entering Care-Age Country Home in December 2003.
Lena Gruis, 94, of the Nevis area, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. She was born April 27, 1915 in Sweet Township, Pipestone County, to John and Katherine (Pulscher) Freese. During her childhood, she moved with her family to various states. She attended country school through the eighth grade in Pipestone County. Following her schooling, she gained employment with a minister, Mr. Rossiter and his wife in Pipestone County, where she did domestic work. She married Willard Gruis on Sept. 2, 1937.
John "Papa John" A. Breitbach, 94, of Port Angeles, Wash., died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Crestwood Convalescent Center. He was born Jan. 13, 1915 in Park Rapids to Nick and Marie Breitbach. He moved to Port Angeles, Wash.
James Michael Thorne, 60, of Crookston, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at home after battling cancer since 2002. He was born in Bemidji on March 17, 1949 to Robert and Catherine (Wing) Thorne. As a youngster he moved with his family to Pequot Lakes, then to Jenkins, and a few years later to Watford City, N.D. In 1967 they returned to Bemidji and he graduated from Bemidji High School in 1967. He attended Bemidji State College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business. He married Mary Joanne Erickson on July 3, 1970 at First Baptist Church in Bemidji.
Richard Chrysler, 89, of Park Rapids, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Diamond Willow Care Center in Park Rapids. Funeral services are pending at Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids. Call 732-7264 for further funeral information. An obituary will appear in a future issue of the Enterprise.
Wayne D. Erickson, 62, of Park Rapids, died Jan. 20, 2009 at home of an apparent heart attack. He grew up and lived much of his early life in the Cottonwood area. He worked as a beverage and chemical service technician for Reinhart Food Service and was transferred to the Park Rapids area in 1995. He is survived by four sons: Troy (Cathy) and Brandon (Kristy), of Duluth, Siver (Vanessa), of Cottonwood, and Justin (Kari), of White Bear Lake; nine grandchildren; and a sister Elaine (Per) Wickstrom, of Duluth. Funeral service: Monday, Jan. 26 at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, Cottonwood.
Alice F. Higginson, 76, of Nevis, formerly of Peoria, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 at her home. She was born Feb. 3, 1932 in Chicago, Ill. to Earl and Alice Amberg Henson. She married Harlan Higginson on May 7, 1954 in Peoria.
Lotis Floy Jackson, 87, of Colfax, Wis., formerly of Lake George, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at Colfax Health & Rehab Center. She was born Sept. 12, 1921 in Carlton to Royce and Mabel (Peterson) White. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm in the Becida-Laporte area just south of Bemidji. She attended country school in the same area. On Oct. 1, 1942 she married Thomas "Ted" Theodore Jackson in Bemidji just before his being shipped to the European Theatre of WW II. They had a son and four daughters.
