Bonnie Mae Johannessen, 72, of Park Rapids, formerly of Bertha, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at home in Hubbard following a battle against Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. She was born on May 4, 1936 in Cresco, Iowa to Orson "Bill" Howe and Lucille (Macal) Ingeltheron. She attended 12 years of public school mostly in the Waterloo, Iowa area. As a young woman she went to Clear Lake, Iowa. On Dec. 31, 1970 she married Robert Johannessen in Sioux Falls, S.D. They had eight children. She owned and operated a restaurant and worked at the Lifetime Motor Home Plant in Mason City, Iowa.
Rev. Karl Bertram Stroming, 83, of Lake Emma Township, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at his home. He was born Dec. 27, 1925 to Carl and Myrtle Stroming in Little Falls. He lived in Fort Ripley, then Watertown in his early years. He attended Concordia Academy and Concordia College in St Paul, and Concordia Seminary in St Louis, Mo. His vicarage was completed in Bear Creek, Wis. He was the shepherd for congregations in Onarga, Ill., Bagley; Ottertail; Fort William; Ontario, Canada; Immanuel Fish Lake; and Prior Lake. He married Marion Steinhorst June 14, 1954. They had five children.
Winifred "Wynn" C. Jenkins, 93, of Park Rapids, formerly of Albuquerque, N.M., died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. She was born March 12, 1915 to Martin and Della Schneider in Pulaski Township, Iowa County, Wis. She graduated from Linden High School in Linden, Wis. She went on to attend La Crosse State Teachers College. She married Bud Jenkins on Sept. 1, 1935 in Freeport, Ill. They had two daughters. They made their home in Horeb, Wis., where she and her husband worked at the Jenkins Meat Market. In 1951 they moved to Park Rapids. She was a member of St.
Richard "Dick" Eugene Sandberg, 70, of Menahga, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D. He was born May 22, 1938 to Richard and Bernice (Sende) Sandberg in Alexandria. He graduated from Menahga High School in 1957. He married Jeanette "Jan" Putz on June 6, 1959. They lived in Hastings for 29 years. He worked for Ecolab in St. Paul for 40 years, and traveled extensively for his work. He retired in December 1999. He was a member of the Osman Temple in St.

Yvonne Mae Nordbo, 86, of Northwood, N.D. died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at the Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. She was born April 24, 1922 in Primrose Township to Edward and Emma (Eide) Evenson. She was baptized on June 4, 1922 at Perry Lutheran Church of rural Portland, N.D. and confirmed there on Oct. 23, 1936 by Pastor Brudvig. She attended school at Primrose Township School 4 where she graduated from the eighth grade. Upon finishing school she worked at different homes and at Graffe's Grocery in Erie, N.D. On May 19, 1942 she married Orlando Clifford Maurseth at Port Orchard, Wash.

Shirley Joyce Tooker, 74, of Akeley, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay. She was born Nov. 16, 1934 in Aberdeen, S.D. to Robert and Magdalene (Orth) Siemann. Her family then moved to Mankato, where she attended elementary school and graduated from Mankato High School. Following graduation she spent a short time in nurses training. That training was instrumental in her becoming a Nurses Aid/Certified Med Aid. She spent many years working in various nursing homes and care facilities.
