Robert "Bob" Leslie Nelson, 61, of rural Sebeka, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at his home, southwest of Sebeka. He was born on Oct. 24, 1947 at Wesley Hospital in Wadena to Wilbert and Janetta (Schmitz) Nelson. He attended Sebeka Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1966. That night, just after his high school graduation, he left for San Diego, Calif. to begin his military training. He served his country in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1970. He married Dorothy Knaub on May 4, 1968 and the couple made their home in Spokane, Wash. for two years.
Daryl A. Sells, 74, of Akeley, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis with Father Duane Pribula and Pastor Chris Conger officiating. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Interment: Next to her son, John in White Oak Cemetery near Chamberlain.
Vernon Reino Koskela, 85, of Menahga, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at Sebeka Apostolic Lutheran Church with Rev. Art Skoog officiating. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 24 at Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga. An obituary will appear in a future edition of the Enterprise. Sister Margaret Smith, 88, of Crookston, died Sunday, April 19, 2009. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Friday, April 24 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 702 Summit Avenue, Crookston. Visitation: 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Friday. An ecumenical service celebrating the life of Sister Margaret will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, May 1 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. Irene Pearl Kleen, 81, of Akeley, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Kay's Pine Chalet in Akeley. She was born September 18, 1927 in Balsam Lake, Wis. to Fred and Edith (Holcomb) Dase. Her family moved to Amboy, where she grew up, attended school, and graduated from Amboy High School. Following high school she lived and worked in Mankato for several years. In May of 1960 she married Harold Wilbur Kleen, and in 1964 they moved to Cass Lake, where they owned and operated the Oakdale Grove Resort until 1989. She was widowed in 1983.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Joan Lambert, 71, of Nimrod, formerly of Harrison, Ark., died Monday, April 13, 2009 at Lakewood Health Systems Hospital in Staples. She was born Feb. 3, 1938 to Albert and Florence (Garner) Carr in LaCrosse, Kan. She attended public school in Wichita, Kan., where she graduated from West High School in 1955. She married Wayne Huffman in 1960. She had three children: Myra and Rex Brown, and Wayne Huffman. The young family made their home in Diamond City, Ark. She worked for Dr. Samuel Scroggins as the office manager of his medical clinic in Harrison, Ark.
Frederick "Fred" Joseph Schmitt, 85, of Park Rapids, formerly of the Twin Cities area, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living Center in Park Rapids. He was born Oct. 26, 1923 in St. Paul to Rose Schmitt. At the age of six months he was placed in an orphanage. At the age of 11, John and Mary Zeis, of Holdingford, took him into their home. He attended a country school through the eighth grade and then went on to the Holdingford High School. He helped on his parent's dairy farm. On April 10, 1943 he entered the U.S.
Olive Boemecke King, age 97 of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009 at her home in Park Rapids, MN. Olive was born near Wa-terloo, Iowa on December 22, 1911. Olive was the sec-ond eldest of 13 children born to Roy and Katherine (Stoffel) Boemecke. She attended Catholic schools for 12 years and graduated second in her class. She learned the beautician trade and opened her own beauty parlor which she ran for many years in Waterloo, Iowa. Olive was married to Don King for over 35 years. Their union was blessed with one son, Neil. They moved to Park Rapids in 1948.
