Virgil "Cob" Lee Fairbanks, 61, of Mahnomen, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at his home in Mahnomen. He was born Sept. 11, 1947 in White Earth to Thomas and Marie (Brunette) Fairbanks. He attended elementary school in Pine Point, high school in Park Rapids, and welding school in Grand Rapids. He moved to Minneapolis, where he utilized his skill of welding at the American Iron Supply Co. for 37 years. He received numerous awards for the artistic sculptures he had welded.
Sharon Marie Sargent, 66, of Stacy, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009. She was born in Hayward, Wis. to Wilber and Lila (Losey) Wood. She and her husband, George "Ed", wintered in Arizona while spending summers in Minnesota. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant. She is survived by her husband; two sons: Brent, of Blaine, and Brian, of Goodridge; a daughter, Debra Wilson, of Indiahoma, Okla.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m.
Floyd Joseph Funk, 86, of the Menahga-Park Rapids area, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. He was born Jan. 7, 1923 to Charlie and Henrietta (Bliefield) Funk on his parent's farm near Nimrod. He attended country school near his home. As a young man, he helped his parents run their dairy farm and also ran a trap line. In 1960, he ventured west to Montana where he worked at several large industrial sawmills. He also spent some time timber jacking in the Rocky Mountains.
Maryanne S. Wilson, 88, of Park Rapids, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids. She was born Aug. 21, 1920 to George and Louise (Shearer) Schoneberger. She married James A. Wilson on Sept. 16, 1944. They had three children. She is survived by a daughter, Dolly (John) Stennes, of Grand Forks, N.D.; and a son, Steve (Mara), of Nevis; five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jeff; a grandson, Johnny; a sister, Ruth Kopp; and a brother, Joe Schoneberger. Funeral service: 11 a.m.
Jerry Neil Wambolt, 69, formerly of Nevis, died Friday, March 27, 2009 after a battle with congestive heart failure. He was born Dec. 6, 1939 to Edward and Alice (Westvik) Wambolt in Nevis, the seventh of 10 children. He lived most of his life in the Nevis area with the exception of moving to Sacramento, Calif. in 1998 and moving back to New York Mills in 2005. He attended Nevis Public School and graduated in 1958. In 1961 he married Bonnie Kriens of Park Rapids and they were married for 10 years. They had two children: Jodi and Gregory.

Donald "Donnie" F. Fischer, 60, of Park Rapids, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at his home. He was born to Leo Mathew and Mary Ann (Beierman) Fischer on May 30, 1948 in Humphrey, Neb. He grew up and attended schools in Norfolk, Neb. He moved to Park Rapids in 1967 with his family. He liked to be known as the "Collector" and there wasn't much he didn't collect. He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Fischer of Park Rapids, two brothers: Dave (Barb) of Laurel, Mont.
Florence E. Sunram, 83, of Frazee, formerly of Ponsford, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Frazee Care Center, Frazee. She was born Sept. 14, 1925 in rural Osage to Valentine and Jannette (Nugent) Becker. She grew up and attended country school at the Becker School in rural Osage. She later attended school in Park Rapids, graduating from Park Rapids High School. She then attended Bemidji State Teacher's College, where she received a teaching certificate. She taught school at the Potato Lake School near Park Rapids, and later at the Round Lake School and the Bongo School near Ponsford. On Sept.
