Harriet Dorothy Wilson, 93, of Menahga, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. She was born March 12, 1915 to Jacob and Julia (Phillops) Vangness in Story City, Iowa. Her family moved to West Concord, Minn. in 1924. At age 16 she went to work for different families. She married Wilfred "Butch" Wilson in 1937. They lived in the West Concord area and then in California where she was a certified welder on ships during WWII. In 1949 they moved to Menahga where they bought a farm. They lived there for three years and sold the farm to Peterson Turkey Farms.
Beatrice Angeline Natzel, 94, of Park Rapids, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. She was born on Aug. 3, 1914 in Baxter Township, Lac qui Parle County, to Peter and Marie (Hanson) Jacobson. She attended school and graduated from high school in Montevideo. She married LeVere Edward Natzel on July 3, 1937 in Montevideo. They lived in Montevideo until 1948 when they moved to Green Bay, Wis. They lived there until 1951 when they were transferred back to Montevideo with the Milwaukee Railroad. In 1965 they moved to Aberdeen, S.D.
Joanne M. (Sitz) Leger, 70, of Big Lake, died Feb. 9, 2009 at her home after a battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Vern; five daughters: Deb (Larry) Christensen, Cyndy (Scott) Huber, Becky (Darryl Lukes) Oines, Molly Leger and Jessie (Tom) Vavra; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her stepson, Jake; an infant son, David; two brothers; two sisters; and her parents, Bernice and Bernie Sitz. Memorial service: Friday, Feb. 13 at St. John Lutheran Church 13045 Fremont Ave NW, Zimmerman. Interment: Private.
Douglas Amundson, 62, of rural Nimrod, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 in rural Nimrod. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Sebeka United Methodist Church. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka and one our prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Interment: West Lyons Cemetery. Harold "Tinker" Skov, 45, of rural Nimrod, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 at his home. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Sebeka United Methodist Church. Anna W. Rock (Omaayawibiikwe), 90, of Waubun, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D. She was born May 19, 1918 in Cass Lake to Dan G. and Mary (Dunn) White. She was raised in the Leech Lake area. She married Reuben Rock on Dec. 31, 1934. They made their home in White Earth where her husband was the priest at Breck Memorial Episcopal Church in Ponsford. She was baptized at the Episcopal Church in Pine Point. She was a member there until her husband died. She later moved to Waubun. She was employed by the White Earth Band as a community health worker for many years.
Brian Lance Lamb, 35, of Hewitt, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was born on Nov. 10, 1973 to Frances and Edward Lamb in Casper, Wyo. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Wadena where he went to school and graduated in 1993. On May 23, 1992, he married Judy Lyn Luedtke at Black's Grove in Wadena. They had six children. In June of 2008, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. He was sent to Rochester to be treated. On Oct.
Patricia Lynn Basswood, 43, of Ogema, died Saturday, Feb. 7 at St. Mary's-Innovis Health Center in Detroit Lakes. She was born Sept. 26, 1965 in Park Rapids to Norman Blakely and Mary Lou Basswood. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Anna and Albert Basswood. She attended Pine Point Elementary School and Park Rapids High School and Circle Of Life High School in White Earth.
