Brenda Cossette, 59, of Pelican Rapids, was seriously injured late last Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 59 northeast of Pelican Rapids. According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Cossette was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Kenneth Cossette, also 59. He lost control of a pickup while driving northward on icy roads at 11:37 a.m. The vehicle entered the south-bound lane and struck an SUV head-on. The driver of the SUV was 43-year-old Linda Mallow of Pelican Rapids.
Kerry Lee Herrmann, 39, of Richville, appeared in Otter Tail County District Court on Dec. 2, charged with felony domestic assault. A female witness alleged that Herrmann punched his stepmother with a closed fist, according to court records. Records show the incident took place at 1:30 a.m., Nov. 27, on 395th Street near Richville.
The Otter Tail and Grant County Corn and Soybean Growers, with plot cooperators, have harvested this year’s corn and soybean variety trial plots, providing data for growers across the region. The data was just released online last week, at a time when growers are making their variety purchasing decisions for the next growing season. “We are working the University of Minnesota on replicated trials for our plots,” said Brian Kjesbo, Chairman of the Otter Tail and Grant County Corn and Soybean Growers.
Kids will have a chance to visit with Santa in Dent on Saturday. From 10 a.m. until noon, Santa will be available for pictures and visiting with kids at the Dent Community Center. Goodie bags and prizes will be available for kids, with cocoa and cookies for all. The event is being sponsored by the Dent Community Club.
In an effort to share information and gather public input on a proposed recreational trail that would run between Perham and Pelican Rapids, the Otter Tail County Public Works Division will be holding two informational meetings next week. Facilitators of the meetings will discuss the scope, schedule, route possibilities, potential funding sources and other pertinent information for the proposed 30-mile multi-use trail. The first meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 16 in Pelican Rapids starting at 7 p.m., with a meeting in Perham the following night, Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
Arvig is warning Perham and other local communities of a recent phone scam that a few of the company’s customers have reported. In the scam, the caller attempts to take control of the customer’s computer, and then tries to gain credit card information and other private data. From information gathered, Arvig technicians have determined that these calls are not from a reputable source. The person who commits these fraudulent calls:
A fire has destroyed a house at a rural resort near Dent. Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputy S.L. Brandner said the sheriff’s department was called to a structure fire at about 10:20 a.m. Saturday at Rocky’s Resort on State Highway 108. Fire departments from Dent, Vergas, Perham and Pelican Rapids also responded to the fire, as well as Perham Emergency Medical Services.
