The Otter Tail County Recycling Redemption Center in Perham, located next to the Resource Recovery Facility, is closing effective May 1. It was necessary to move the redemption center due to the expansion of the Resource Recovery Facility beginning this spring. “Closing the redemption center was a tough decision,” said Otter Tail County Recycling manager Rick Denzel.
The Perham Focus announces the addition of two new employees to its advertising staff. Marc Hartman has joined the team as an advertising representative for the Perham Focus newspaper and Contact Shopper.

Friends and family of Adam Menze, the Ottertail pilot killed in a plane crash in February, have organized a benefit for the wife and six children he left behind. A “Carnival for the Menze Kids” will be held Saturday, April 27 from 2-6 p.m. at the Ottertail Community Center. The event will feature games for all ages, clowns, a silent auction, hot dogs, sandwiches, a bake sale, pop corn and cotton candy. All proceeds will go toward helping the Menze family.
Jacob Fredrick Salomonson, 31, of Battle Lake, appeared in Otter Tail County District Court last Thursday on a charge of domestic assault by strangulation. The charge relates to an incident in Battle Lake on April 17 in which an unidentified victim was allegedly assaulted and strangled by Salomonson, who then prevented the victim from calling 911. Court documents show that the daughter of the victim was able to make the call to law enforcement. Officers arrested Salomonson. A preliminary breath test indicated a .17 alcohol concentration.
Someplace Safe in Perham will be holding its annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: Men’s March to End Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence” this Friday, April 26. April is recognized across the country as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Registration for the walk will begin at 11:30 a.m. at 100 2nd Ave. SW, with the march set to start at noon.
The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center’s annual spring fundraiser, the Garden Party, is happening this Thursday, April 25. Bidding for silent auction items begins at 6 p.m., and will conclude at 8 p.m. Rod Mursu will call a live auction segment beginning at 7 p.m.
