My name is Luke Potts, and I currently hold the rank of Life Scout in Boy Scout Troop 321. I am starting my Eagle Scout Service Project, which is to build four kiosks for the VFW Post 4020, and the Ladies Auxiliary Post in tandem with them. The kiosks will be used by the two groups when they distribute ‘Buddy Poppies,’ as well as at other times throughout the year.
It’s Week of the Young Child April 14-20, and we’re thinking about all the many people in this community who help shape the minds and lives of our youngest citizens every day: -The parents who work all day but find time to sit down, read a book and cuddle with their child. -The care providers and educators who offer children a safe, nurturing place to learn and grow. -The dentists who are willing to give oral health exams to children as young as one because they understand the importance of early care and detection.
Annual maintenance of home heating appliances mostly applies to gas and oil forced air furnaces, so that’s what we’re going to talk about here. This maintenance varies from some simple tasks to some much more difficult ones. Mostly, though, bear with this. You’ll likely learn something. First, since we’re discussing duct work systems, it remains a simple conclusion that in order for those systems to work properly, all the air openings should be fully open. That includes both supply and return grills and registers.
The Otter Tail County Emergency Operations Team has set up three distribution locations where residents can access sandbags, sand, and plastic needed to construct dikes for the upcoming spring thaw and potential overland flooding. Bags that are filled on site will be available free of charge. Three distribution locations opened Friday, April 5 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will remain open every Monday through Friday until further notice. State Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria, and Representative Bud Nornes, R-Fergus Falls, will be hosting local Town Hall meetings, including one in Perham, to listen to concerns and ideas from constituents. The Perham High School Robotics team, called Brobotix, finished 23 out of about 60 participating schools in the Minnesota Regional FIRST Robotics Competition at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis at the end of March. The statewide invite was so big it took up two sports arenas.
The Yellowjacket Speech team took first place at sub-sections with a record high-point win at Staples on Saturday. The team advances to section action this Saturday in Underwood.
