Charlette Claire Hoemberg of Moorhead, MN and formerly of Staples, MN was born on October 15, 1939 in Elba Township, of Winona County, MN. Her adoptive parents were Joseph and Clara Mettel. Charlette passed away at her home with family, hospice, and her best friend Maggie, her dog, by her side, on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Charlette attended and graduated from Wadena High School in 1958. She lived in California until 1975. She was united in marriage with Larry Hoemberg, having been together since the spring of 1977.
Donna was born March 10, 1959, in Torrance, CA. She lost her nine year battle with inflammatory breast cancer on July 25, 2009. Internment will be in Ohio. Donna is survived by her daughter, Marissa, age 9, currently living in Ohio; father, Roger Lee (Jann), New York Mills; mother, Betty Lopez (Leonard), Anahiem, CA; brother, Bob Lee (Vickie), Oregon; aunt, Nancy Karvonen (and family); favorite cousin, Lori Ness (Sam); and many close and longtime friends.
Otto Herman Genoch, 94, of Menahga, MN, passed away peacefully at the Green Pines Nursing Home on Thursday, July 30, 2009. A funeral mass will be held Monday, August 3, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Butler, MN, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, August 2, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Otto was born on October 15, 1914 in Richville, MN, the son of Fred and Amelia (Remer) Genoch.
Lyle George Mickelson, 73, of Frazee, MN passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side under the special care of Red River Valley Hospice. His funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Menahga, MN. Interment was in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Lyle was born November 16, 1935, to Julius "Jay" and Betty (Torkelson) Mickelson. He grew up on a farm in Spruce Grove Township near Wolf Lake, MN and attended District #75 Grade School and Frazee High School.
Anna Mae Baumgartner Carrlson, 74, of Perham, MN, formerly of New York Mils, MN, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home, Perham, with all 15 of her children surrounding her. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Dan Walz officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 28, from 4-8 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham,with a prayer service at 7.
Lesley William "Les" Sherwood passed from this life on Friday, July 17, 2009, at his home in Granger, Iowa. Les Sherwood was born March 13, 1922, in St. Joseph, MO, to George and Edna (Pittam) Sherwood. He attended Lafayette High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Sherwood served his country during World War II as an aviation machinist in the South Pacific. On a short leave home, and on a double date, he met Geraldine Ruth Jackson, a spunky school teacher from Cameron, Missouri. They married 6 weeks later on June 10, 1945.
Virgel Osland, age 67 of Ottertail, MN died on July 20, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Lakeland Hospice. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday July 23, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Amor , MN with Pastor Dean Grier officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday July 22, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church. A second service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday July 24, 2009 in Walnut Grove, MN. Interment is in Walnut Grove. Arrangements are with the Belmont Funeral Home of Henning, MN.

Funeral services were held for Richard "Dick" Helmeke, age 74, of New York Mills on Wednessday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Wendell Jenson of Phoenix, AZ, and formerly of the Wadena area, was born on March 16, 1941 to Kenneth and Edna (Sowers) Jenson in Oylen, MN. He passed away, unexpectedly, at the age of 68, on June 27, 2009, on the Alaskan Highway in the Yukon of Canada. Wendell was united in marriage to Janice Altenbrun on September 5, 1985 in Sisseton, SD. He resided in Minnesota for 66 years, working as a truck driver and mechanic, and will be remembered as the owner of A-1 Service Center west of Wadena. His past two years were spent in Arizona.
