The Otter Tail County Sheriff's office is investigating the death of six horses, including one overnight. No charges have been filed. By midafternoon the entire farmyard welcomed the trailers full of rescued horses that started rolling into HighTail ranch near Hawley.
Friends and family of Adam Menze, the Ottertail pilot who died in a plane crash last week, remember him as an "amazing" family man who was full of faith. Menze, who crash landed near Parkers Prairie last Wednesday, was an experienced flyer. Those who knew him are calling this a freak accident. "I flew with him numerous times. He was a good pilot, never did anything crazy or silly," said Grant Smith, a friend of Menze's, and a pilot himself. "He's done a lot of cross-country flying over the years and he's a very competent pilot." Menze knew what he was doing in the air.

The Pope's recent decision to step down may have startled some, but local priests are taking it in stride, saying he made the right call when he left for health reasons. "The first initial thing was just surprise in hearing it," Wagner said. "However, when I thought about it, I thought, 'I can respect that.
Moans and groans from all over the area can be heard from residents sick and tired of winter. But then there are those who are way too busy to complain -- busy cashing in. Minnesota winters are crucial for some businesses that were deprived of it last year and the first part of this season as well.
ST. PAUL -- Something can be done about gun violence in Minnesota. Gun rights and gun control advocates generally agree on that point, but they don't necessarily agree on what comes next. "To do nothing ...
Charles Beck's home doesn't just house his art, it frames it, inspires it, and has become one of his finest pieces. The view of his property on the outskirts of Fergus Falls has all the great features of some of his best woodcut prints: rolling hills, thick clusters of trees and a strong wooden structure. Beck's woodcuts are abstract interpretations for the Otter Tail County area.
A rural Parkers Prairie man heard what sounded like a crop-dusting plane with engine trouble about 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a loud crash. When Gayle Snook went out to investigate, he discovered the wreckage of a plane in some trees about 90 yards from his home. Otter Tail County sheriff's officials on Thursday identified the victim as 41-year-old Adam Menze of Ottertail.
