Robert and Jamie (Lemon) Wasche of Perham are proud to announce the birth of their son, Maximus Niklaus Wasche, born Feb. 18, 2013. He weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. He was delivered by Dr. Jaimie Deraney and Dr. Corey Nyhus at Perham Health. Following the loss of her 8-year-old daughter Jane to leukemia last year, Jil Fiemeyer has embarked on a journey to raise awareness and funds for leukemia research. To honor Jane's legacy, Fiemeyer is doing something she's never tried before in her life. A head-on collision on state Highway 32 killed a teenage boy from Fertile on Tuesday afternoon, the State Patrol said. Cody W. Christianson, 16, was southbound in a Mitsubishi Montero Sport when the SUV crossed the centerline and crashed into a Freightliner semi, the patrol said. The accident occurred at around 3 p.m. 10 miles north of Fertile. The driver of the semi, Brian L. Doehling, 39, of Hector, was not injured.
A good amount of snowfall is causing a good amount of trouble for area anglers. Snow pack and drifts on the lakes are making for a tough time hauling fish houses off lakes, and snow or not, time is ticking. The Minnesota DNR requires houses be removed by certain dates according to where they are located. Houses south of Highway 10, including Detroit Lake, need to be off by midnight this Monday.
