Vernon Carl Quiram, 75, Frazee, MN, died Monday, August 10, 2009, at St. Mary's Innovis Hospital in Detroit Lakes. Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2009, at 12:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with Father Ilango officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Furey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements, 218-334-2461.
Roger Olson, 64, of Wadena, MN, died on Monday, August 10, 2009, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, MN. Roger was born December 13, 1944, in Owatonna, MN, to Clifton G. and Norma (Aaseng) Olson. He attended school in McIntosh, MN, graduating in 1962. Following graduation, he attended North Dakota School of Business in Fargo, ND, and later attended Bemidji State University earning a BS degree in elementary education. While attending BSU, he met his future wife, Christine Johnson.
Merle A. Marden, age 76 of Staples, passed away on August 9th, at Lakewood Health Systems Hospital in Staples. A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, August 12th, at 1:00 pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Steve Sveom officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 - 7 pm at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples. Merle was born in New York Mills and spent most of her life in Staples. She married Robert in Staples on October 6th, 1951.
Ruth E. (Beltz) Brandt was born on June 24, 1916 at Sleepy Eye, MN to her parents Hugo and Mary (Krenz) Beltz. She passed away, at age 93, on Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Elders Home in New York Mills. Ruth was united in marriage with Raymond H. Brandt on January 12, 1935 at Redwood Falls. She will be remembered as the friendly cashier, for 17 years, at the Ben Franklin Store in Wadena, after which she became a farm wife until 1986 when they retired from farming. She and her husband farmed at Norcross, where Ruth was active in her church.
Vaughn F. "Casey" Stengl, 78, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services for Vaughn will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Christian Fellowship Church of Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Friday, August 7, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Christian Fellowship Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday. Vaughn "Casey" Stengl was born on August 5, 1930 in Ray, North Dakota to Joseph and Anna K. (Damschen) Stengl.
George Ignatz Wokasch, 98, Frazee, MN died Monday, August 3, 2009, at the Frazee Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 2 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with Father Ilango officiating. Rosary, by the Knights of Columbus, will be held at 1 p.m. in the church on Thursday, August 6th, with visitation following until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
Patricia Kotschevar, 76, of Richville, MN, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at Autumn Manor, Perham, MN. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, August 4, at 11 a.m at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Dan Walz officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Patricia was born May 14, 1933, in St. Cloud, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Leona (Schwinden) Puff. On September 22, 1954, Patricia was united in marriage to Richard Kotschevar in St. Cloud.
William "Bill" Hunnicutt, Jr. was born to William and Annabelle (Monteith) Hunnicutt on November 2, 1926, in Akron, OH. He later moved to Sylva, NC. After the untimely death of his parents, Bill joined the United States Navy in 1942 at age 16. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger and also a sub-chaser in the North Atlantic during World War II. He also served during the Korean War. His service took him to many parts of the world during his 20 years in the Navy. He retired from the Navy in 1962 as a Chief Petty Officer.
Gertrude Eva Muckala Johnson, formerly of rural Blue Grass, MN, died at 95 years of age, on Friday, July 31, 2009 in Wadena, MN. Gertrude began life on April 21, 1914, in New York Mills, MN, the eldest child of Hugh and Rachel (Koljonen) Muckala. Born at home, she weighed less than two pounds and her parents initially kept her in a shoebox. Her mother's wedding band would slide up Gertrude's arm to the shoulder. Amazingly, she lived without an incubator and specialized medical knowledge. Gertrude attended school in New York Mills.
Charlette Claire Hoemberg of Moorhead, MN and formerly of Staples, MN was born on October 15, 1939 in Elba Township, of Winona County, MN. Her adoptive parents were Joseph and Clara Mettel. Charlette passed away at her home with family, hospice, and her best friend Maggie, her dog, by her side, on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Charlette attended and graduated from Wadena High School in 1958. She lived in California until 1975. She was united in marriage with Larry Hoemberg, having been together since the spring of 1977.
