Services will be held for George Whaley, age 79 of New York Mills on Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Richville. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at church. George passed away at home in New York Mills on July 12, 2009. Lawrence Wendell Leeseberg, a former resident of rural Wadena, MN, was born June 4, 1916, to Earnest and Edith (LaBarge) Leeseberg in Deer Creek, MN. He passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the age of 93, at Bethany Home in Alexandria, MN. Lawrence was united in marriage with Agnes Noreen "Nora" Theidich on December 24, 1938, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Henning, MN. They farmed in Henning until 1958 when they moved to Wadena. Lawrence worked construction and continued farming in Henning and Wadena.
Funeral services were held for Anna (Janke) Jokela, 85, of Perham, MN on Friday, July 10, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham with Pastor Carl Noble officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation accompanied by Dale Lubitz. Special music was provided by Ann Dardis. The pallbearers were all of Anna's sons. Anna was laid to rest in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Evergreen, MN. Anna Bertina (Janke) Jokela was born on November 23, 1923 at home in Runeberg Township, rural Menahga, MN, to John and Ruth (Johnson) Eklund.
Erma Vera White of Verndale, MN, was born September 1, 1917, to James E. and Margaret M. (Rappensparger) Crabtree in Tenstrike, MN. She passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at age 91, at Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples, MN. Erma attended Quiring School in Beltrami County. She was united in marriage with Leonard E. White on October 4, 1941 in Wadena, MN. In the past she was employed at Baudora Nursery. She served as a member of the Women's Prayer Fellowship of the Verndale Alliance Church and the Hope Chapel Alliance Church.
Carl Melvin Salo, 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at his daughter's home in Becker, MN, with his wife at his side. Carl was born to Nels and Hattie (Aho) Salo on February 26, 1919 in Paddock Township, Ottertail County, MN. He was united in marriage to Lillian Saarela on May 31, 1941, at the Sebeka Apostolic Lutheran Church. Carl and Lillian farmed in Rockwood Township, Wadena County, MN from 1943-1973. Carl worked at CC Camp at Itasca in 1936-1937, and on the Iron Range at Coolage in 1953.
Pearl Lillian Gunn was born on October 30, 1920, to Mathias and Clara (Nicholson) Kallerman at their home in Bluffton Township, MN. She passed away on July 4, 2009, at age 88, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena. Pearl was united in marriage with Loren H. Gunn on October 22, 1943, in her parents' home. She worked for Douglas Aircraft during WW II. As a homemaker she enjoyed cooking and baking, and sharing hospitality in her home. Her hands were busy with knitting, crocheting, and all handwork.
The funeral services for Marie Alice Wright, 65, Frazee, MN, will be held Monday, July 13, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, MN with Father Xavier Ilango officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Frazee. Visitation is scheduled at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee on Sunday, July 12, 2009, from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
John F. Rice, 74, died peacefully at home surrounded by family, after a very brief battle with cancer, on Saturday, July 4, 2009. John was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 21, 1935 to John F. and Mary K. Rice. He graduated from Perham High School, in Perham, Minnesota in 1953. He went to North Dakota University on a football scholarship and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1958. He was drafted into the United States Army, and served two years in Germany. In 1961 John married is sweetheart Joanne P. Ledermann.
A private memorial service will be held for the family of Scott Krause the morning of July 11, 2009. Open to extended family and friends of Scott and the Krause family, there will be a gathering the afternoon on July 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Roger and Shari Krause residence rural Ottertail, MN. Scott's ashes will be spread across the Caribbean Sea at St. Croix, Virgin Islands. Scott Allen Krause was born on April 4, 1968 in Wadena, MN. His parents are Roger Allen and Sharon Constance (Baker) Krause. Scott grew up in Ottertail, MN.
