WALKER — Sophomore Becca Huus knows what it takes to qualify for the state golf meet and did so for the second straight year carding an 81 to lead the Perham girls team and keep the streak of Perham girls players at state in tact. Huus follows Holly Karkela and good friend Rachel Nelson in a streak that stretches back to the 2008-2009 golf season. Huus qualified last year as a freshman and found out the hard way what life can be like at the state meet in Jordan where weather typically seems to play a strong element.
WALKER — The Perham boys golf season came to a close Tuesday at the Section 8AA meet at Long Bow Golf Course in Walker with the Yellowjackets finishing in sixth place. Senior Nate Bormann shot an 81 to lead Perham, followed by sophomore Eric Huus with an 84 and junior Blake Kunza shot an 86. Chris Swenson and Keaton Lausch of the section champion Fergus Falls Otters shot 74 each to win co-Medalist honors.

PERHAM — Park Rapids (21-3) was six outs away from a berth in the Section 8AA baseball final, but the Perham Yellowjackets (20-2) exploded for a nine-run sixth inning to bury Panther hopes in a 10-3 victory between the section’s top seeds Tuesday afternoon at Krueger Field. Perham used small ball, a long ball and got some aid from Panther fielding in the Yellowjackets’ big inning to come back from a 3-1 deficit.
FARGO — The Minnesota State High School League board of directors approved district scheduling for the 2015 football regular season with a unanimous vote Monday. The state was split into 18 districts to help teams fill regular-season schedules. Perham will play in the MIdwest District, comprised of 22 teams. All of Perham's 2013 opponents are in the new district.

Fort Thunder Shooting Center is starting a new summer league that will run for 10 weeks, the Combo League. The first five weeks of league will be shooting trap; the second five weeks shooting skeet. Shooting will begin Sunday, June 15 and run until the week of August 17. Teams will consist of five shooters each. League members will be allowed to shoot one week ahead on Sundays and Wednesdays.
HAWLEY — The No. 7AA Perham Yellowjackets (19-2) have not forgotten what got last year’s ball club to the state championship game. Perham employed the bunt far more in two playoff games than they did all season and playing smallball aided in a playoff sweep to defend the top-seed in the south subsection. PARK RAPIDS — The Perham boys golf team placed third behind Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes at the 8AA South subsection meet in Park Rapids at Headwaters Golf Course Wednesday. All three teams advance to Monday’s Section 8AA golf meet at Longbow Golf Club in Walker. Sophomore Eric Huus and junior Blake Kunza led the Yellowjackets carding a 78 and 80, respectively.
